I've had very little luck looking for reviews / first hand experience with NVG models in Canada.
I like the PVS-14 style device. I've gotten some exposure stateside to the Gen 3 Pinnacle models, so that is my standard / expectation to measure against.
Google turned up nothing for reviews / experience. A search here on CGN showed a couple of threads, most of which were a few years old. There was one from last Jan that had Tom Swift stating that TNVC had indicated export permits might be possible, but it's not clear what Gen / product that was for.
I know the websites GSCI and Newcon Optik both promote "made in Canada", but is that "assembled in Canada from Russian tech", or "made in Canada from North American components"?
If it is the former, is that really an issue? Is the Russian / European stuff worthwhile?
One Shot now has the Gen 1.5 Armasight models coming in. Farmboy has stated that they are made to slightly below Gen 2 mil-spec levels to allow for civilian export. Does anyone have any experience with these yet?
From the airsoft crowd, it seems like Gen 3 devices are brought in without the proper paperwork once in a while. However, this is illegal (and comes with huge fines / vehicle penalties, not to mention jail time ), and I really want to follow proper procedure.
So, I guess I'm looking for current opinions, either on the different brands, or on what the differences between gens (specifically 1.5, 2 and 3) really have been in your experience.
I'll leave FLIR and thermal out of the picture at the moment. I know it's a very useful tech / tool, but I'm more interested in traditional NVD.
