First Handgun Advice

Single action revolvers are a PITA at shooting ranges. Slow to load and unload, hard for range officers to see if they are unloaded. Why go back to the 1880's when you don't have to? If you like revolvers go double action, better .22 is probably a good semi like a Browning Medalist or Ruger, unless you want to spend more money. I have both a Colt Officer's model and a Medalist, but the Medalist is far more accurate.

You can get new reproductions of Schofield revolvers with a break open...

As for the Sig Mosquito, I would say that I have seen four guys shooting Mosquitoes and two of them had a little trouble with them. Minor things that I think the engineers at SIG will iron out sooner than later, but until then remember tese guys made full house pistols for years before they hit the .22 market with thier P22X series clones. The P22X handguns I have used are all freekin' bang on firearms (hell, I use a P229R when I comptete in the ATHL), but I have been hearing about a few problems with Mosquitoes.

So what I really want is a 1911 style gun. Ive decided I might as well get what I want, or Ill just spend more in the long run. Im pretty sure Im going for an STI Trojan in 9mm. Good qaulity 1911 but a little cheaper to shoot than .45. Thanks for all the help.

It is one of the best baby out there, if you want a smaller one, the Ranger II is good too.

Ruger 22/45. 22 training and price with the 45 feel and controls. And don't think you are just going to own one handgun so it has to be a big bore, get the right tool for the job. Your first pistol/revolver should always be a .22

I'd go with a .45 1911 and then get a 22 conversion kit for it. You can't use the conversion kits with 9MMs and it just ain't a 1911 if its not in 45ACP. I had a Ranger II and it was a nice gun. I really don't see the point of getting a heavy 1911 to shoot 9MM with, and limiting your self to single stack magazines.

if its a single stack 9mm on the normal size frame why wouldnt you be able to use the conversion kit on it?

im going with a 9mm 1911 for my first pistol as it saves me on ammo, i get the 1911 frame which i like the look of and shoot well with and i get to shoot it more than if it was .45ACP.

Hungry posted a while back a good review of his Kimber .22 kit (found here)

Fabulous fit and finish. Assembly is faster than you can say, "Robert's you dad's brother." Just pull off the slide from your .45 1911 Government and replace the .22LR kit slide on to your frame...9mm 1911 single stack lovers: Too bad.. this kit is only set up for the .45 frame since the ejector on the 9mm 1911 single stack is quite a great deal more centered (skinnier cartridge). If you feel like removing the pin (punch it out) and then the 9mm ejector, then you can convert your 1911 9mm single stack to use this baby. I'm in the process of playing with my wife's 1911 9mm single stack Government length frame. :D

You're right I kinda felt wrong about a 1911 in 9mm hah. The conversion kit is good advice. I hate to say it but yes..with my budget I WILL only own one handgun for quite some time. IMO the rugger is butt ugly, and I have to have something that looks just as good as it functions. Thats just me.

UPDATE: Well My PAL has finally arrived. I'll be going very soon (most likely tomorow) to purchase a STI trojan .45. It was my gunsmiths personal gun and comes with some goodies. I've shot it at the range a few times and although I cant hit sh*t yet I love it. Im stoked!
