Wondering which handguns to look at when purchasing my first handgun. Also looking at maybe getting into IPSC with this handgun. Any advice would be great. TIA!

CZ Shadow 2 is your best bet.

I second this. I would get the Shadow 2 OR just so you have more options. Can check out the beretta 92x if the shadow 2 doesn’t fit. But yeah, the shadow 2 would be my choice.

+1

Shadow 2 is one of the most popular pistols in IPSC Production and for good reason. It handles very well (for most people) with low perceived recoil, an excellent trigger right out of the box, ergonomic design, and is accurate and reliable.

It may be a bit expensive as a starter pistol, but with bill C-21, your first pistol may very well be the last pistol you ever buy, so it's worth spending a little more on.

You picked a bad time to try and be picky. Best buy any handgun quick if you can find one.

Yes to that ^

Stick to good brands (in no order of preference): CZ, HK, Glock, Sig, Walther. Pick one that fits your hand (or has customizable grip panels) and that doesn't leave a hole in your budget (with the ban, its monetary value goes to zero). Get a few spare mags and ammo. Go to the range while you can.

If a more budget friendly gun is to your liking, I wouldn't hesitate to get the predecessor to the Shadow 2 which is the Shadow SP-01. It was pretty much the go to 9mm for many competitors for years until the Shadow 2 came along.

Sig P320 in 9mm.

Or some of the Glock or Glock clones. The hardest thing oyu have right now is finding one to buy.

Best advice...if there is anything you've wanted to have, get that. No regrets.

CZ has great line up, but I did not like the Shadow 2. Sig is really good, and reliable. P320 versatility is hard to beat. Turkish imports are good quality. Better to get something local, so you can get some hands on. Or at least know what you are getting before you buy online.

One factor to consider, is what do you want to do for Mods? Optic? Porting etc.

Keep those factors in mind when making your selection.

Revolvers are a lot of fun, but ammo is expensive.

Most importantly, enjoy the process, and have fun.

This is a tough time to get into handguns. Before all this C-21 nonsense you could go into a shop and handle a dozen or so different handguns and see what works. For me I would pick something up with my eyes closed and draw on something on the wall and open my eyes. If the sights were in line and it felt comfortable in my hands and I could reach all the buttons, levers it would work for me. Now you wont find much in stores to go and do that. Pistols are a bit like shotguns they need to fit the user to shoot well. Had I bought a Glock without handling it first I probably would have been unhappy because the way I naturally hold it makes the muzzle point up. They are a good gun but just don't fit my hands all that well. There are a lot of companies out there making reliable guns so its more a question of what do you want? As for myself I prefer revolvers that take 38 special since I can make light and heavy loads to suit my shooting.

It looks like the last wave of Shadow2 are on the beach now , so jump quickly! A few Shadow Orange 2 are still around so
first/last gun,,, yes I would so pay the extra $
I have a SP01 and it’s awesome! So also good choice.
Some Sigs are still showing up =Vgood! Getting a Legion waiting on papers hmm?
Glocks are pretty well all gone following the drum beat of the Glock Parade.
You probably won’t see a descendant 1911 or 2011 unless your in the in with A+people. Pitty
Other options are out there?
But Pickens are getting poor. Get the Orange 🍊
