so, the wife and I wrote our Rpal's about two weeks ago, we used to have many hobbies we did together, fishing, skiing, sport bike riding, but due to the wife breaking her back in 2000, the fun was put on the shelf.when I suggested we take up handgun shooting as a hobby, to my surprise my better half said she was in! We have no experience with handguns, and we're fortunate to have a local CGN member offer to take us to the range to try it out after I had posted about the best way to get experience. Yesterday we met at the Chilliwack range , where Stinky Pete first gave us a great " class" on handguns to begin with, awesome information, and then we had a couple of hours shooting with an M&P 9 and a Ruger 9mm, what a great day, and we are both hooked, can't stop smiling thinking about it,lol. To top off the day, we also got to shoot an AR15, also a first for both of us! We had so much fun that as soon as we left the range our first stop was the local gun shop, where even though we know it will be a few months until we receive our Rpal's, my wife put a deposit on a GSG 1911 .22,,,, I think she is hooked! She plans to have it paid off by the time her Rpal arrives so the transfer is good to go right away, she also chose the " pink" model so that I won't want to shoot it hahaha!Cant thank Stinky Pete enough for the intro to this sport, but I better start working harder, I have a feeling this could get expensive.

welcome to the support group, you have started your journey to recovery, the first step is admitting it.

My wife doesn't have her RPAL yet (agoraphobia and can't usually leave the house) BUT she loves going to the range when she is having a good day. I set up the PAL courses here and the instructor stays with me and has nothing to do during the day SO he said he will just do her course sitting here in the comfort of her own environment.
I am glad you folks had access to a fellow enthusiast to take you out. It only takes once to hook most people.
The GSG is a neat little gun to start with but that 1 will turn into 10 before you know it. If you want something else like that we picked up a Swiss Arms SA-22 and it is a fun little plinker.

Congrats...that's an fantastic thing to do together....and on the plus side(if you needed one) you won't have to get creative justifying your purchases....lol......enjoy.

Our story is very similar. We got are PAL 1.5 years ago now have 11 rifles. We took our RPALs in October received them 1rst of January. We are now the proud owners of a buckmark .22, M&P .22 and a M&P 9 core. We love shouting as a couple. We are trying to go to the range once a week.

Well what can I say, your bank account is about to have a stroke...... It will survive though.

I feel your pain and welcome to a great sport that both you and your wife will enjoy together for years to come......

"Recovery?" What sort of tosh is this? The OP is POOCHED. Done for. Accelerating down the slippery slope to an impecunious end. Beyond hope. (Well, geographically, just short of Hope.) Nonetheless, we will all do our bit to support them in their addiction, won't we? To start, have a look at this, which was just posted in a thread above. If I had a firstborn, I'd likely be sore tempted to pawn him/her.

Imagine what the future could bring; the two of you side by side at your reloading bench cranking out the 9mm's :)

No doubt!

To the OP. While your shopping for your preferred pistol don't forget to get acquainted with your new best friend, the progressive loader. Hornady, Dillon, Lee, RCBS all make em. You'll be posting in the reloading section of CGN before a year is up. ;)

Edit- with the price of .22 these days you should know you can reload real center fire rounds for .02¢ more / round.
