Hello CGNs,

I have been doing some research but I wanted to get one more final opinion before I buy my first handgun.

The three things that I am looking for are;
1)AFFORDABILITY (price of gun and ability to shoot cheap ammo)
2)TRAINING (easy clean/strip, change parts, adjust sights, customize)
3)RELIABILITY (shoots straight, made properly)

I will be using the firearm at the range for bulls-eye and general plinking.

The three guns I am torn on are the M&P 22 (USED), SIG 1911 22(NEW), BROWNING BUCKMARK CAMPER UFX (NEW)

I am 80% sure I will be purchasing the M&P 22 but I am wondering if anyone has experience with this firearm?

Can someone give me their .02 on the whole situation?

Cheers,

STONE :d

ive only ever owned 1 .22 cal pistol a gsg 1911 .22 (witch i belive is a SIG) and i love how its the exact same as a .45 version (feel wise and weight) you can go back and forth without knowing (until it fires lol)... i cant say enough about it ive only ever used cci minimags in it and ive put 900 rounds though it and i have not had one issue ever... i cant say anything about the others but if you have a chance to shoot the gsg (SIG) it wont disappoint

None of the above. Ruger Mk III Target. Adjustable sights. More accurate and reliable than any of the above. Made of STEEL, not aluminum or pot metal or zinc alloy garbage. /endthread :)

with affordability being his number 1 hes looking for i think a $350 vs a $700 might make more sense... but who am i to say maybe his budget accounts for a ruger... personally i hate the looks of those types of pistols lol

ive got about a dozen different 22 cal pistols and i can say with no doubt at all the the Browning Buckmark is by far the best one out there.
inexpensive and solid, easy to take down and runs all ammo.

funny, i just watched a video on youtube last night about the Buckmark pistol, ill see if i can find it for ya.

FOUND IT!
its a recent video from last month and the fella has almost 400,000 subscribers, seems like he knows his stuff.

Thanks for the input guys.

I chose the three guns I listed because they are also available and on sale. The ruger style pistols are very accurate but I am more focused on affordability and training. I want the feel of a full sized firearm but also do not want to shoot mini-mags only.

The gsg/sig is very attempting but I read mini mags or High grain/fps only. I plan on using mini mags with my .22 only when i comps or training. I do not want to be restricted to a certain type of ammo.

My overall budget is around $650. The m&P 22 is used which makes it affordable. This is a hard decision aha

Awesome video.

Do you own a browning buckmark? Have you tried shooting cheap ammo? federal / winchester?

I like the light trigger pull and long barrels of the buckmark. Other than the overall style (I like modern) it would be a no brainier out of the three for me.

As you can tell I'm all over the fence.

Also might purchase a cheap used 929 sidekick double action :d

No pistols here, but my buckmark target carbine has been a lot of fun. It's very well made and functions better than I had hoped. I've tried a few brands and types of bulk and it eats it up without a hitch. CCI sv is most accurate, but Winchester dynapoint is nearly as good but the sv is much cleaner.
If I was a pistol kind of guy I'd have a buckmark for sure.

my boss just bought a gsg last month and he said hes shot sub sonic rounds and it cycles... i just use mini mags cuz thats what has been working not saying it dont work with others but i dont know... i have a cheap "bucket o bullets" from cabelas... im gonna go shooting this weekend ill throw some of them in and let you know if it works good/ok/bad if that helps at all

thanks for the input!

Let me know how it goes. Eventually I plan on owning a 1911. The the sig/gsg seems to be the way to go for price and mod-ability.

Thanks for the input,

So far the buckmark seems to be the way to go. The only thing stopping me is the style compared to the more modern handgun (M&P .22) that I am looking to purchase.

Cheers

My GSG shoots anything I put in it, pretty sure I have the stock spring in it too, for a budget plinking .22 I would buy one again, but maybe I just got lucky with mine, I do run it with lots of oil.

hi v-king,

Yes I am also currently looking at a double action H&R 929 sidekick. It fairly cheap at a shop so I am purchasing a semiauto and the 929.
(If I get a deal) It hard to find cheap used .22LR revolvers in my area (Southern Ontario) or maybe I am looking in the wrong places.

Cheers!

My GSG is very picky with ammo. CCI Blazer is the only bulk ammo that actually works, otherwise its mini mags.
Have you considered a revolver?

Thanks for the input,

I think you caught a unicorn on that one! A lot of my research on the GSG/SIG 1911 stated that the spring guide rod is the main flaw because of a plastic piece which should be replaced with an aftermarket steel one. It causes most of the failure to feed issues with cheap ammo. Also Ive read oiling the #### out of it helps like you stated but could also lead to problems. (SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF THIS IS FALSE)

I know eventually I will own one of these but I want a little more experience overall with handguns before I start solving issues or can afford shooting mini mags.

Cheers!
