Revolver or pistol? There is so many brands around on the market .....I really need help on this one!

Well probably 9 or 22 if its your first. As far as revolver vs auto thats personal preference. I haven't been shooting pistols that long but thats what everyone told me when I started.

A 357 mag revolver allow you to shoot 38 spl, 38+p, and 357mag. 38spl is very light and also you can load up some target load for paper. 38+P is my favoute. 357mag is a blast to shoot and is cheap to reload. S&w 686 is very very good choice. A .22 is a must but IMO it is not a perfect first gun. 9mm also a good cal to start . I vote for the 357mag.

That's a pretty broad range of cartridges. .22 lr is fun and cheap, and would be a good choice for either semi or revolver. As far as semis I'd suggest either a Ruger, Browning Buckmark, or Hammerli X-Esse.

If you want a gun with a little more punch, then go for a 9mm in semi or .357/.38 revolver. It's almost impossible to go wrong in terms of 9mm semis, so long as the one you get feels good to you. No idea on revolvers in either case.

Decide if you want auto loader or revolver.

If auto loader is your thing, pick 9mm from CZ 75s, SIG 226s, Glock or
Berettas. Buy 22LR conversion kit with the same sight picture as your 9mm.

If you want to be a cowboy, go with S&W 686 and S&W 617

Revolvers are simpler to load and operate, very inconvenient to clean.

Auto-loaders are easy to clean and are fun to shoot, usually less recoil
as some of the recoil is absorbed by the cycling action.

If I had to start all over again and had to buy ONLY
one gun until the end of the world, I would buy SIG 226 SS.

CZ 75 SP-01 is another fine choice.

I have to say I've had a blast with my Ruger 22/45 MkIII. It was pretty cheap and loads of fun. Cheap ammo, reliable, great craftsmanship. It's a pistol I would never sell, and I keep coming back to it for fun.

Buy yourself a good .22lr revolver, either a S&W or a Tauras, then by a respective .357 Magnum or 38 Special.
Then buy yourself a good autoloader such as a Sig 226 or Glock 17 in 9mm. Once those have been mastered treat yourself to a real handgun and get a Kimber or Paraord 1911 in 45 ACP. If you go with the Para get an LDA, you will never regret that trigger, even if it is untraditional.

And the whole bit about revolvers being a twit to clean is horsepucky. They clean up nice.

I started with a S&W M19 .357 six inch. Then went to a Feg MBK-9HP.
You want cheap; Taurus, Norinco, & don't forget the pre-owned market.
If you like handgunning you'll probably end up getting at least one of each.

You WILL buy more than one. In fact you will probably buy one or more of what you have listed. So the question is what to buy first?

If you have access to 38 Special reloads then I would say get a S&W revolver. Something like a model 19, 586, 66, 686, 14, etc. I would buy a good condition used gun rather than a new gun. This will save you some bucks that you could put to the next handgun.

If you don't have convenient access to lighter reloads than consider a .22 as a first gun. There are going to some posters crying that you will waste your time buying a .22. Odds are they still don't need to shave but they keep trying anyway. :p

A .22 will be cheap to shoot. The money you save shooting your first 3000 rounds will help pay for your second gun. While you are shooting your .22 you can get to know more pistol shooters and likely try their guns. You want to try as many guns as you can before you buy. This will give you a basis to make an informed decision on the type of gun that is right for you.

I am a "baby" handgun owner and shooter. I have started when Paul Martin announced total handgun ban and as for now own 4 pistols and 1 revolver.
I like 1911 style and have two handguns in this class Springfield Loaded in.45ACP and STI Edge in .40SW. Both are excellent guns and they fit my hand so well.
Also I have a XD9. It was a mistake to buy this gun. I do not really like it, can shoot it very well.
Revolver S&W 686, excellent shooter.
My recent buy was CZ75 SP01 SHADOW in 9mm.
This pistol is so good I can believe it. It shoots good groups and it handles so well. The only thing I would like to improve is the trigger, everything else is great. This gun is not expensive, they have them in Epps for 799.

Stay Focus.

Go and buy a SIG P226 in 40 S&W it is around 1175 + tax , but you will not regert it.

When it comes to guns always buy the best.

Smith M&P in 9mm. If you get it before the end of January you'll get $50 back from Smith and 2 free mags. This is a very soft shooting 9mm, it's pretty trouble free ( I never experienced any issues at all) and after about 500 rounds the trigger will be much better than it is when new. The grip size is adjustable, which will let you set the grip up so that you're holding it properly and will develop better shooting skills more quickly, since you're not fighting the grip/trigger reach. It also has enough 'tacticool' to make it a fun gun to own - polymer frame, Novak sights, and flashlight rail built in. Oh yeah, and it's completely ambidextrous so you can practice weak handed too.
