First hunt with my M70: Pic added

Nice fat deer. That will eat real good, congrats!

Nice rifle too, I have the same one on loan right now from a fellow 'nut...he better come get it quick or I might make it a permanent resident!

Nice Featherweight. Mine's a Sporter in .270. I've essentially missed the season this year, so I have no idea how it'll work out in the field. Everyone who's got one seems to love it, so I'm looking forward to next year.

Thats how they are counted for the officail Boone and Crockett measuring method

A: NUMBER OF POINTS ON EACH ANTLER
To be counted a point, the projection must be at least one inch long, with the length exceeding width at one inch or more of length. All points measured from tip of point to nearest edge of beam as illustrated in Figure A. Beam tip is counted as a point, but not measured as a point.

I can see how some of the Westerner's description of number of points (for one antler only)comes from by examing the Boone and Crockett scoring procedure

For the sake of discussion, in the Boone-Crockett scoring procedure, you will notice that is the number of points on each antler....... for example, 4 left and 3 right, etc. It is not the number of points on both antlers (i.e. 7 in this case).

So, for example, in this case, if the right antler has indeed 4 points,
I guess saying that is a 4 pointer on each antler would be correct?? But saying that it is an 8 pointer for both antlers would also be correct??

You would have to qualify what your number of points is based on.

Cheers,

Yeah but some of us only have six fingers. Anything above that and we're screwed.

Great looking buck, and nice rifle. :)

ah, you're a carpenter too eh?;)

I've always been confused by point counting...spike, fork, three point, four point....Our regs have four point and better season's, no shooting 2x2's! Easiest to mention both antlers, but seperately, 2x2, 3x4 etc...
