I joined the WSM club last spring whe I picked up a cheeper gun, Savage 116 Stainless took it to the range and was impressed with it right out of the box! It shot well for a factory hunting rifle and proved easy to load for. I went with H-380 pushing a 180 grain Nosler Accubond bullet.
I never did chrony it I sighted it in with 5 shots dead on at 100 m and took it to my fathers pace to leave it there as a spare rifle for him or myself. On my way back from teh hunting camp I stopped in and decided to go for a walk and see if any bears were out and about. 5 Mins into the hunt it was over as quick as it started, as I walked up on one feeding on one of my deer food plots.
The Accubond did well I hit him on the top of teh front shoulder with a complete pass through and a dead kill 5 feet from his tracks. Not a big bear by any means but it was 5 1/2 feet and about 300 pounds a young boar..
The rug is nice with no fur missing one of teh best ones I shot its thick and the blackest of black I have ever seen, so it looks like it will be off to my local guy to get a rug/partial head mount done.
So the bottom line is I am sold after a pleasant experience with the WSM not just for the kill but the ease of loading and developing teh loads.
