First Lee Enfield No 4 Mk 1

Don't know much about Lee enfields. But just got this one in a trade. Seems to be not to bad of shape. Need to clean it up a bit. Not sure where all the serial numbers are but looks like it matches so far. Where are all the serial numbers usually located on these?

Looks like a nice Canadian Long Branch that later went through a British refurbishment at Fazakerly.

Long Branch serial number for the receiver is on the butt socket, left side. British factories might be there also but some (e.g. my ROF Faz No.4Mk.2 from the 1950s) and Savage put it on the left side of the receiver where yours is stamped with Long Branch, model, and year. Bottom of the magazine is common but not all magazines are stamped. Bolts are typically stamped because it is good to keep the bolt matched to the rifle, and that's normally on the bolt handle as on yours.

It didn't, look closely and you will see it is force matched. Still a nice No4 MKI*. If the bore is VG or better it should be a nice shooter as well.

Kinda difficult, but it it looks like the same number to me.

The bolt serial number has been re stamped with the original number as well.

Both numbers on the mag are the same, the stamped and the electropencil if that's what it is

Long Branch didn't number mags so it's nice but not a necessity.

May/June 1944 was when the stamped rear sights were made available to retrofit all no4 rifles of previous manufacture which were equipped with the 2 position flip sight.
