Well, I got into black powder shooting this year after talking about doing it for many years. Bought a .45 flinter, 54 percussion and a Traditions inline .50 so far. Finally bagged a 5 point buck tonight with the scoped Traditions inline .50 firing a home cast 240 grain .45 caliber lead bullet, T/C black sabot and 80 grains of 777. We just had a nasty snow storm and I spent the day watching the trails faithfully. He made me wait until the last 10 minutes of shooting light which made a very long day but it was worth the wait. Not a massive deer by any means, but it will be prime eating. I just love all these blackpowder guns, but hunting from a stand I have been using my scoped .50 due to the range of the shot's I'd have to take and usually the deer travelled through just before dark, so the scope is a big bonus giving me a few extra minutes of comfortable shooting time. I'd have been hard pressed to bag this fellow without the scoped in line this evening as I had to thread a shot through a narrow opening between him and me and it was starting to get shady.
Wow! That big piece of lead sure knocked this guy down in a hurry. Shot him just behind the fore shoulder and he never went 20 yards. Any other "blackpowder virgins" getting deer lately? I'd love to see some other success stories.
