Hey all, figured I would share a little grouse story with you all. At about noon today I decided it was time to get the little man out and moving after a late morning so I loaded up my rifle and shotgun in the truck to go for a drive. We headed out kinda southeast of home (the advantage of farm living) and had been out for about 15 minutes when we saw the first grouse of the day chilling out on the side of an oilfield road. Needless to say it has found it's self on tonight's menu. One .410 round from about 30 ft and it was all over. My boy was some kind of excited to have "his" first kill, and I was happy to have something wild in the menu, and the memory of his reaction.

I only snapped the one quick pic but I think it says more than I can express.

I remember my 4 year old son's first grouse, taken at 20 yards with a Benji HB20 pistol, he knelt on one knee to brace his elbow... one pellet to the neck... it was comical, because he was upset about it... he had been aiming for the head and felt like he had missed... a chum on the tac team of the local police force said that only two in ten on the team could have made the shot...

Good job to your son... it will be one of those lasting memories...

You folk are to kind! I like to think I'm just doing what any dad would do. Pass on the traditions and the passion, it's the best way to bond. Besides a kid never remembers his best day playing video games, and a first bird only happens once.
