Hey guys quick question, I purchased my first pistol online and I just received an email with my transfer reference number. My question is, do I call the CFC like I normally do for pistol purchases with this number or do I wait and let them take care of it themselves? This is my first time doing it so I just want some clarity. Thanks guys.

Hi

If you bought the gun from a retailer, you do not need to call the CFC.

Uh oh, conflicting answers! I ordered the pistol from Questar if that helps.

If the transaction is between two individuals, the seller initiates and the buyer completes the transfer. When purchasing from a retailer, the transfer is completed without the buyer’s involvement. It has been my experience that, some retailers will provide the transfer no. as a courtesy.
There may be some retailers that do this differently but I have never experienced it.

I could be wrong but you may have to refer to this number for a TATT to pick up your restricted from the post office.

Im going though the same deal here - waiting on the firearms office to approve the transfer. You can use the reference number to call in and ask whats going on.
In a private transfer, like person to person, there is some additional steps where you have to call in. Buying from a business, you just basically have to wait. Doesnt hurt to call, but you dont have to.

If the business is shipping to your door, you don't have to call.I sometimes call after a few day's with the ref no. just to see how things are going, they (CFC) don't seem to mind and I think it can help speed up the process..
