Hi everyone,

My cousin needs to apply for his first outdoor card after completing the hunting education program in Ontario. The problem is that service ontario's are closed because of Covid and he has to show the documents from the course to get an outdoors card. Is he SOL?

I haven't had any luck getting ahold of someone at service ontario or the ministry.

Thanks

Where does your cousin live? Here's a list of Service Ontario sites. Some are closed and some are open. You gotta scroll down the page a bit but they're there.

Are there any near him that are open? Like the next town over? That's what I did with my bear license last week. Bought it and had it printed at the Service Ontario office in the next town over because the one in my town is closed. It might be an option.

I had an Outdoors Card about 15 years ago and recall I had to go to the MNR in Winona to show proof of Hunters Education from back in the late 80's.

I can't find my old Outdoors Card though (if it is even needed?) and tried to apply online @ huntandfishontario.com for a new card, but there was only the option to purchased a card only. The other options like 3yr hunting were not clickable.

So I will need to do this all over again in person?

Try buying the card first. Once your accreditation is on file, you shouldnt have to show it again. Buddy didnt renew his card for 20 years while living in the US, and he had no problem.

K thanks. Ordered the card. Hunting options (other than dog licence) are still not clickable.

Forwarded the rcpt email to MNR email NRISC@ontario.ca with copy of Hunters Ed/Exam Cert. just in case that helps.

I don't know if I'm doing this in the wrong order or what. I have my old outdoors card from Newfoundland but I was just able to purchase the Ontario one. I don't think I have my old hunters ed cert like G22 so I hope my old card is enough, assuming they even need it? Maybe I should just give them a call :/

Alright well I called them anyway at 1-800-667-1940. After 20 minutes of menus and holding eventually I got a hold of someone and they were able to help me out. All I had to do was send them an email with a picture of my old card, my new ontario outdoor's card number, and a statement certifying that it is an original copy. I expect next week both myself and G22 will find that what we've sent is satisfactory :)
