First Pistol - Where to buy

Just started pistol shooting and after much research I have decided on my first gun. I plan to purchase a SIG P226 in 9mm. I would like to visit a dealer and handle a few different models to see which one I like the most as SIG seem to have about 15 versions of the P226. Problem is that there seems to be a lack of inventory at the various dealers that I have talked to and no one seems to know when they might get more in. Does anyone here know a good place to go within driving distance of the GTA?

On another note what about buying online. Are my fears irrational?

Thanks for any advice.

All my guns were bought online. It is easy. Never had a problem, and have dealt with many different dealers. Try Shooters Choice in Waterloo for Sig.

One thing to consider is the grip. I handled the 226 equinox and 226 with E2 grip. I didn't care for the E2 heel bump but I liked the fit of the equinox. I'm not sure if you can switch from one to the other. Also some models come equipped with a SRT (short reset trigger) which I personally would opt for.

If you like the E2 grip and regular trigger you might want to consider the 22lr classic model and caliber exchange 9mm kit. The same frame and better deal than going the other way. The 22 doesn't have last round hold open but there is a different magazine available from a vendor in the EE that supposedly fixes that. Note. I just checked the cabelas site and the pictures they have are of the old grip not the E2 grip. Make sure if you buy online you ask about specific features that are important to you. Such as grip and beaver tail. The gun you receive maybe different than what's in the picture.

I handled a couple models at a local cabelas but they won't take the trigger locks off which is a huge turn off. Wholesale sports has switched to the same policy :( hopefully you can find an I dependant that will let you try it properly.

You can handle them at Target Sports in Gormly, Cabela's in Barrie, Al Flattery's in Toronto, however I would not buy from them, once you decide what brand/model you want order from IRUNGUNS and save your $$$

How am I supposed to tell if I like a gun with the trigger lock still on it!? Some peoples ideas....

Buying online from a reputable source is no problem. If a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is. If you are not sure, check the banner at the top of the page, it is filled with site sponsors and basically all of them have good reputations.

Yup. Trigger locks on a demo is retarded. Remove the firing pin or something if they're paranoid

Just check the prices with the exchange rate in mind. Also I believe there are other fees involved and the gun might not be available right away. If in doubt check with them first about final price and approximate delivery date before putting the money down.

At Williams they did take the trigger lock off for me, when requested.

Wholesale sports in kelowna did when I was there last year but wholesale sports nanaimo won't anymore. Not sure if it's new policy everywhere or not. It's a deal breaker for me as the trigger is one of the most critical things and you can't really tell what the grip is like with a trigger lock in the way.
