Hi I'm thinking of trying my hand at competitive trap shooting an have a few questions.
When it's a 100 round singles is there a break between each 25 or just straight 100?
Would I carry all 100 shell in my vest or is there time to grab a box from my bag?
I just don't want to interrupt the harmony of the group.

Thanks

I'm not sure what Pita is, but it is runs like an ATA trap shot then you show up to your trap field with your gun and 100 (plus spares) rounds of ammo. You take 25 (plus spares) on your person to the line, shoot your round of 25. Then the squad goes back to the gun rack, waits for the one smoker to have half a smoke, and goes to the line again with 25 and shoots that. Depending on size of the event and range, you might switch fields every 25, or at the 50, or not at all.

First of all, good luck, it's harder than it looks!
The PITA events I have entered shot all 100 singles one after the other. You start on one field, shoot 25, then move to the next field, until you've shot all 100. I saw a lot of guys who had a small carrier that just fits 4 boxes that they carry from one field to the next. However you do it, you need to have all 4 boxes with you.
If you are shooting handicap and doubles as well, bring a good book or mag. with you... the wait times are horrendous, and was the reason I no longer shoot these events. There is nothing they can do about this because there are a lot of shooters to get through, but it IS a real PITA (get it?)
Shooting competition is a heck of a lot of fun, and the nerves will most likely get to you the first couple of times. Keep at it though, the guys and girls who play this game are really good people, and will help you any way they can.
Get out there and have fun... C.

Thanks skeeterC and adamg. I'm sure I'll get the hang of thing. I was just going to start off on the singles to see the flow of things then work on the others.

PITA is Pacific International Trap Association. It is pretty much the same as ATA and I do believe they recognize each other's registered scores for participation in both. You would typically shoot 25 then move to the next trap and shoot another 25 until you have completed your 100 targets. At some smaller clubs you may shoot 25, break to resupply yourself with ammo and a quick breather then shoot another 25 on the same field before moving to the next field and repeating the same thing on the second trap. There is always a few minutes between rounds to acquire ammo, have a drink or relax a few minutes before continuing on. Best of luck and have fun, it's a wonderful sport with alot of really great people.

That is how we hold our 100 target singles events, 25 targets, a minute or 2 between the first 2 rounds, a walk over to the next field and repeat. The reason behind the changing of the fields is to avoid a view of a field advantage the skewing scores.

It could go quick or slow depending on the volume of shooters, equipment issues, and such.
Its a good idea to carry some water as well as your shells to stay hydrated.
Good luck, have fun!

if there's 4 trap houses. I started in a club with only two houses, and have shot at many others. At one time maple creek, Bassano, Richmound, Sceptre, started it out with one trap and eventually added another. Some places shot all 100 on one trap, some went 50 50. If there was a large turn out, it became a long day of waiting around.
