First post, looking to get first gun

Hello all,

A co-worker of mine referred me to this site. I am currently waiting for my PAL in the mail and looking at getting my first gun and learning about the hobby of target shooting and eventually hunting. I am looking at surplus rifles like the sks and mosin nagant as they are an affordable alternative to something modifiable and more exciting like the CZ858. Anyways, just saying hi and looking forward to browsing through the boards and learning lots.

EDIT: I'd be interested if anyone from around Edmonton can let me know where they shop. I'd especially be interested in finding out where to get cheap surplus ammo (7.62x39 or x54).

Get a 10/22 or something if you want a modifiable first rifle tons of after market parts and cheap .22lr ammo (500 rds of wildcat should be under or around $30). Fun to fire off a ton of rounds, plus you can get magazines that hold more than 5 rounds. You can put an archangel stock on it if you want a tacticool rifle and save up for a decent hunting rifle later on, surplus guns wouldn't be the greatest for hunting, maybe even a bench gun and start a build off a savage or remington if you want to get into accurate shooting.

Surplus guns are great for hunting, my dad's Lee Enfield .303 has brought down many animals and now that I have it is bringing down... well a few more, but that's just me.
