Hey everyone,

Just bought a Remington 700 Tactical XCR Long Range in .223 Rem. Mounted a Nikon Prostaff 4-12 x 40 BDC scope.

Cant wait to see how this performs.

Any tips on some factory ammo for the 26" barrel and 1:9 twist?

Thanks,

Mike

69 gr smk's shoot amazing in my 1-9 twist 20" sps tactical. Under half moa if i take my time. Reloads of course but there should be offerings with this bullet in factory ammo. ThAt is if your looking for accuracy for target shooting and not explosive results on varmits. May want to look into vmax, varmageddon, blitzkings etc. If thats what your looking for. Welcome to the addiction :) lol

I was looking at getting some Hornady 68gr BTHP match from SFRC. Has anyone used these? I keep reading that some 1:9 like 75gr and some dont?

Also, how should I break this in? just shoot the shiz outa her and clean after or I've seem some people clean after each shot or a few shots when new?

My 1:9 remington loved 69gr Sierra match kings. Anything heavier didn't shoot very well. As far as break I'm goes you'll get a million answers. I've never done the shoot and clean type breakins, Igive the rifle a good cleaning before shooting, sight the rifle in, and shoot some groups. Clean after that range trip and that's it. I don't usually clean again until groups start to open up.

I stuck with the 69 smk after i got into handloading. 77 gr gold medal match didnt do great and 69 gold medal match was a bit better. My best groups ever with factory ammo was with a box of nosler 55 grain varmageddon. I was so impressed i bought a box of bullets and continue to be impressed. My 1:9 has a 52 grain load, 55 grain load, and a 69 grain load that i stick with for target shooting.

Handloads really are the only way to go in my opinion

To start, don't worry too much about bullet weight, not until you start stretching it past 300 or so. The Hornady 75 gr BTHP was designed for AR length seating depths and works in a 1 in 9 usually. The AMAX and other high BC 75+ pills may not like the 9 twist. That being said the 26" bbl is your friend here and the extra velocity will help stretch what your rifle can shoot well. A heavy charge of varget and a smattering of 75 gr pills will tell the story. But until then if you're just focusing on honing your skills at close range then pick a quality bullet anywhere from 45 to 69 gr. At short range you don't need a heavy high BC pill to shoot tiny groups, you just need a quality bullet, consistent components and a capable rifle. Oh and one other thing, the nut behind the trigger may take some adjusting to get the most out of the rifle.

This is really good advice. I chose the 69 for longer range use but my favorite load for 200 yards is my 52 grain hornady hpbt load. Super accurate, just a bit light for anything past that
