Hey everyone. Starting my first rifle project and was just looking for a bit of feedback from people who have used mcgowan barrels. I just ordered a 26" 1-9 twist target barrel for a 22-250 Im sacrificing to the gods of precision. Cant wait. Thanks:sniper:

it's funy you'd mention 1:9 twist 22-250, I just received my newly rebarelled 1:9 22-250 action today. Just finished free floating to the new size. Though it is not McGowan, so can't comment

I have two one is a 26" SS Match fluted in .264wm shoots like hot damn sub MOA with factory ammo and 1/4moa with hand loads.

#2 is a SS Match .22-250 1-7ROT waiting to go on my Rem 700SA when I get some time here in the next few weeks I should be able to button that project up.

The only thing I have noticed in both barrels the throat is short making seating bullets far out a touchy subject.

What bullets are you planing on using?

I have some of those to try as well although I will be using 80gr Amax's for paper and 70gr TSX's for hunting the 75's came with the barrel so I will try them out.

What were you thinking about for powder?

I was going to try some IMR4350 and Varget possibly Hybrid 100V

IMR 4350, really? I have a spare pound of this but tought it would be a bit slow.
I am trying out H4895 when weather allows

Ya actually with the heavier pills slower powder seems to be good.

I fired off a message to Barnes because they have no load data on their site for the 70gr TSX in a .22-250.

I received a reply from a technician stating IMR4350 is what worked best in his fast twist .22-250. He was glad more folks were taking advantage of these bullets in fast twist guns. He also said Varget and 100V preformed equally as well.

god damn this is good, was actually planning to launch some 69gr SMK, might give IMR 4350 a chance

Its worth a shot keep us posted!

If you look at the hodgdon site it lists IMR4350 under a 70gr Speer SP and 38.2gr as max load which is compressed. From my reading powders that offer a greater load density and slow burning properties achieve the best results for accuracy, consistency and velocity.....but who knows I'm not expert just stating my observations.

If you also look at the load data for a 70gr bullet and Hybrid 100V you see max is 38gr and Compressed which makes sense that the technician also recommend that powder.

Now another powder I would like to try is Suprform its listed with a 70gr bullet at 40.8gr and compressed but the velocity is 3500fps compared to roughly 3300 from 100V and IMR4350.......
