Hello,
I have just bought a Savage 10T SR chambered in 6.5 creedmore. I want to use this rifle for long range shooting (from 200 yards to 1000).
After a lot of research, the only piece left for me to buy is my scope. I have a 1000$ budget. The two scopes that came at the top of my research is the Vortex Viper HST 6-24X-50mm and the Athlon Midas TAC 6-24X-50mm.
I am a bit sold on Vortex product since I already have a Viper red dot and a Crossfire scope.. I like them and find the customer service very good.

But after looking reviews for the Athlon Midas..
I think it will be a big mistake to pass over this one without thinking about it. Reviews are fantastic.
The only difference I see between my two choice is that the Vortex is SFP and the Athlon is FFP. Apart this, I can't find a bad review about these two scopes. I'm wondering if somebody can help me make the best choice between the two scopes. How do these two scopes compare?
Also, I'm open for other suggestion (I just want to stay in my 1000$ range).

Thank you,
Sam

The new tracking system in these Athlon scopes is fantastic..... and dead reliable. I have run several of these scopes including the Midas TAC 30mm in competition and LR shooting. Dialing all over the place and each time, the bullet lands on target.

Very nice layout, features and glass that rates highly for this scope group. If you want to compete in PRS style games, the FFP will be very helpful.

If you are only concerned about paper punching, then SFP will work great. Here I would include the Sightron STAC 4.5-20 LRMOA into your mix. Again, solid mechanicals and very good glass for way less then your $1k budget.

PM or email to discuss Thanks

Jerry

Having fondled both the vortex and the athlon at shot show recently, I can say with certainty that my next big scope purchase will be an Athlon, and you won't go wrong. Its truly a beautiful scope.

Nothing wrong with the vortex, and I run a lot of different vortex scopes that have never let me down. For PRS, the FFP alone should be the clincher.

Thank you for your feedback. I will probably go with the Athlon since the PST is 500$ over my budget limit.

If I can help or if you have more questions, please pm or email.

I have run a number of types in the Athlon family and they have proven to work very well. Their Gen 2's improve on the shooter interface and take the mechanicals to a new level... all at very affordable pricing.

Email sent, thank you !

I tend to think Athlon is willing to go head to head with Vortex, seem to be aiming that way with their products and promos, like the look of the APRS3 reticle as well. I see a couple more vendors have picked it up this year, hurry up and wait for stock to get here this time of the year.

Take a look at the ares btr gen2 as well. I have an Athlon with the same style reticle and the centre dot is small enough that I find the centre dot can be hard to see in low light or on a dark target. With the illumination it’s no problem. Don’t need it very often but for pretty close to the same price, I think it’s worth it.

If you can extend your budget bit more to the $1500 range, get a Meopta Optika 6 5-30x56 or if you can find the 4.5-27x50 version, that may be slightly more than your current budget. This would be way more worth the money if you will shoot something close to 1000 and not going to spend $4000 to get alpha glass scope now.

Consider this is a long term investment.
