Greeting all,

Recently joined this site and am looking for some direction from the veteran posters and firearm enthusiast. I have some experience shooting and I am looking to purchase my first firearm. I am heavily leaning towards a single action revolver, I feel that this will give me the most fun factor and best bang for my buck. I am open to suggestions for makes and models. Initial googling and searching has me looking closely at an Uberti Cattleman. I won't be shooting overly often and price of ammo isn't a deciding factor

I appreciate any and all helpful information.

A wise and very successful firearms retailer once told me this: "The right gun for a person is the one they want."

have you shot single action revolvers before? they have an old school cool factor to them but dont feel that great in your hand (at least for me) Id say try handle few different guns at least and go from there. but if a gun doesn't feel right in your hand you probably wont feel like shooting it much.

When I was in the states I shot a single action as well as several different other hand guns. Im just try to think of the longevity of a single action, worried the novelty wear off after the first few outings and be left with a $700 regret. I don't have a large budget for the hardware and want to never in something that I will get a lot of
Enjoyment out of.

If that is what you are passionate about then do not deny yourself...there are many cowboy shooting clubs at most ranges and you will have allot of fun doing that. Good luck! Find what you are comfortable with and you will shoot well with it.

A revolver that shoots both .38 and 357? If so I think that's a good idea.
Grabbing a .22 is a great idea as well.. Easy to shoot, learn the fundamentals, cheap ammo (not as cheap as it used to be, but still cheaper than most ammo)
As long as you get what you want, you will be happy!
Good luck!

I like single-action revolvers. I own Rugers and will always recommend them, I have been fortunate enough to have gotten to fire a number of other brands including Ubertti. The Ubertti is pretty much a clone of the Colt but has of course the safety feature that gives it enough points to be importable to the USA. The gun I shot was chambered for 45 Colt but the owner used really weak handloads since he shot Cowboy Action but the gun cycled through 1000 rounds a month and at the time he'd had it over 2 years and had no complaints.

I had a .357 & .44 DA, sold it and went for a SA Uberti conversion .38 mag "Man with no name", beautiful piece with engraved gallions on it.

I have both SA and DA action revolvers. I do enjoy my SA .45 colt but I always take one of my .357 Magnums to the range without fail. Really enjoy the .357 and have started reloading for it. My current favorite is the S&W TRR8, which is a fantastic revolver IMHO.

IMHO regardless what type of gun and action you want, you should make sure you have a 22lr. Cheap to shoot and because of that you will always be able to shoot without worry of running out of ammo or breaking the bank from shooting. Not saying not to get what you want but just make sure you have a 22lr version of what you want at the range with you.

I have an Alpha Proj revolver with 22lr and 22wmr cylinders. Has both cheap plinking and more power in one package. I too shoot mostly single action in my double action revolver but find the double action revolvers much easier to reload than the single action revolvers.

If you like single action revolvers are what you really want then consider the Ruger Single Six with 22lr and 22wmr cylinders. Or get one of them in jut 22lr and pick up a centerfire single action.

I like the single actions too. I shoot a pair of .357 blackhawks for CAS and one at a time for fun.
I suggest if you want to go the single action route look at the 1851 navy conversion. A friend of mine has one and they are just amazing and something different you dont see everyday.
