My PAL Card came in yesterday so I pmed the guys I have bought from and got things started on the transfers.

How long does it usually take to complete a transfer?

When I got the reference number from the seller I called in to complete the transfer and was asked to call back in a day or so. Is this normal?

I ask because my first purchase on my new Rpal is an SKS. Maybe I'm just anxious but it seems that everything is a waiting game...

Do the transfers go a little faster with hunting guns?

Thanks,
Cactus

Its normal. SKS are a non-restricted rifle. When you call your local CFO office they will tell you if the transfer has been approved. Your buyer notice will come in the mail in a few days followed by the registration certificate about a week or so after. AFAIK if the transfer is approved you can take possesion of it right away. Not 100% sure however.

once you completed the transfer, you then notify him , he then would mail the SKS (non-rest) to you , why did he want you to call back for ?

The CFC wanted me to call back in a couple days. I was under the impression that the transfer would be completed while I was on the phone.

After talking to a fellow that does a lot of sales and transfers, I was told that it may be due to the short serial numbers on the SKS and not to worry about it. Just call back in a day or so.

Call it first gun purchase jitters LOL.

is it a russian SKS?

when you called CFC it should have been approved on the phone but you are right due to the way the russian put serial numbers on the SKS, not short but recycling of SN , which mean SN is re-set every year so there will be multiple same SN out there.

i wont worry cos the CFC said to call back in a couple of days.

Yes, it is a Russian Ish 1954, I have a couple other transfers to do tomorrow so I will check on this one when I do the others.

while you are waiting for your SKS, sign up at a range and apply for a LATT, chances are your first restricted purchase won't be that far off ;)

Well, it must be the sks serial number hloding that one up. I did 3 more transfers of shotguns today that were completed while I was on the phone. Buying is too easy with the good sellers here LOL

Well, I checked the status of the SKS transfer and it has gone to the Ont CFO for final approval and is not complete yet. The lady suggested I call on Tuesday which will be 7 days.

So, I guess thats what I will do call again on Tuesday or Wednesday. If I get busy at work and don't call, will they notify the seller or myself when the transfer is complete? Go figure, my first transfer takes long and the other 5 I have done this week were 5 mins or less LOL.

I have to stop... There is a bit of a dent in my savings acct.

I had a similar problem with a Russian SKS. I've bought quite a few guns in the last year, and they all went through within minutes. However, the vendor told me that it had something to do with the russian serial numbers...took a few days, but went through.
