I purchased my first restricted a few weeks ago, from a store (not an individual). They called me a couple of weeks ago and told me that the transfer had gone through. I went to the store, picked up the firearm, and took it home, and now it's in my safe.

The CFO then sent me a new RPAL, with the built-in ATTs in the "Special Conditions". I suppose I should have waited until I had that in my hands before I did the pickup, oops.

I understand that I also need a registration certificate. Do I need to call and ask the CFO for that, or is that already in process as a consequence of the transfer? For future purchases, should I wait until I have the certificate before taking new purchases home?

Hey B-dawg,

I was just as confused when I bought my first restricted. I found the best thing was to call my old firearms instructor (who I questioned after class about this) or just straight up callin the CFO's office. Ask your questions before you say "ops". Just tell them your new and ask them to walk you through the process. Is your paperwork in the mail? Call the CFO's office. tell them your moving. In Ontario I have to give 30 days notice to move to a new residence. Just call.

The registration certificate usually arrives within a couple weeks of having the transfer completed, Once the transfer is approved I pick up the firearm or its shipped to me.

you were fine to go pick it up. the paper work they gave you at the store was to take it home. the registration will be sent in the mail too.

Here our local gun store arranges for the short term ATT to get it home , Usually takes 1/2 weeks for the registration to come in . You should't move it from home till you have the registration papers in hand .

Thanks, all. I'll wait another couple of weeks for the registration to arrive before I call the CFO. Good to know that the gun store didn't steer me wrong.
