Well, I was at the range today, waiting for the rain to die down before changing my target, so I took a picture of my first. Made her back in 2013.

Made her while I was in school, it was mandatory for each student to make a full rifle. Here was the end result. Remington 700 sps trued action, Shilen 1:10 5R barrel with a match grade chamber in .308 Win, Blank American walnut stock, Original bolt threaded. Bolt is mine, I made it on a lathe because I don't enjoy spending $100+ on a pre-made one. Oddly enough the bluing precess messed up, in a good way. It came out a dark gun meta grey instead. She sports an older ACOG because I like compact fixed optics.

The result:

Not what I normally have on it, but the glass works better than a normal hunting scope for me. I have a Nightforce I typically use, but I took it off for my M24 project.

The school is closing thanks to our wonderful government. The name of the school is Centre de formation professionnelle de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau located in Maniwaki Quebec. the whole course is in french, so unless your fluent, things will be like dragging your face on a brick wall. Again, its closing, the government thinks its not cost effective. I graduated in 2013.

That sucks that it's closing. I would have taken a gunsmithing class if it were offered in school.

Specs look good, how does she shoot?

Furthest I could push her out to was 600 yards (Longest clearing on my property). I don't have any proof on hand, but my log book has 1.804 @ 400 yards

You have done a very nice job and just think...... that's the beginning for you.
Thanks for starting an enjoyable thread and showing us a fine looking rifle..

Thank you. It was only a year ago, but it feels like longer. Since then I have built 4 more rifles, and 1 AR, but Ill never forget how big of a pain in the a$$ this one was to polish. Wish I could crank out more tho, hard with no lathe or mill... working on that. I borrow the local machine shops equipment.

Nice rifle man, that's pretty cool that your school offered gun smithing as an elective. Too bad it closed, not that I speak French, but still.

Well, I sincerely hope that you are going to keep us posted on your fine work in the future.

I am making a M40a5 for someone, but I don't discus/leak my clients information or projects unless they tell me to. However I am buying a 30-06 long action off someone soon (I hope) and I plan on turning it in to a full replica of Remington's M24 SWS (No irons on mine. Ill have a 40x50 fixed optics in place), so that one I can post the process since it's mine.

Here was one sheet I tacked the last time I was at the range. Tacked 3 shots @ 100yards. Load was:

168gr Sierra Match King BTHP
IMR 4895 41.5gr
Winchester Brass

I f%#king flinched the last shot... skitos are bad up here... I know, I suck.

Hi, looking for M24 sws. Any ideas where to buy it?

If you're looking to buy an actual one that's going to be a lot harder + significantly more expensive. You're better off building one piece by piece as a replica. Probably the only place you can get one at a somewhat reasonable price is going to be on gunbroker and then you have to import it through somebody like I run guns. Probably cost you a little over 10 grand Canadian after it's said and done.

Sounds like a hell of a school project (and a hell of a school!); I wish the pics were still alive.

Got a chuckle out of it when I read that you did the build "back in 2013"...and then saw that you posted that halfway through 2014...:)

Got another chuckle when the thread was brought back to the top, asking a question as though the thread had been created a week ago, rather than 11 years ago...:)
