So I bought an SKS this weekend and have cleaned it thoroughly. I can't wait to take it to the range and shoot a few hundred rounds through it. Anyway my question is my SKS has 7 X's on the stock (in a row) and others that I picked from had varying amounts of X's. My guess is that they are kills because its a milsurp weapon, anybody have any insight?

They used the stock from another rifle during refurb, they put ###xx on the old serial# and restamped a new number to match with the refurb rifle.

Bahaha what others said is correct. Though your theory just made my day, and I mean that in a good way.

It would be just like the commies that soldiers had to use a specific state approved stamp to mark their kills though...

I prefer your theory. It is the one that you should tell your friends, way cooler than, Refurb marks. Lol

On a side note, did you give the firing pin and assembly a really good clean? I cleaned mine even hosed thoroughly with brake cleaner but the pin was still stuck. Good thing I read a thread here about it and went back and checked. Held a heat gun to it for several minutes the. Hosed again with brake clean. Have it a shake and got the tell tale rattle you want to hear.

Yeah, I took it apart and cleaned it thoroughly with a tooth brush and yes brake cleaner. I noticed that the firing pin was stuck in the forward position and it took a bit of force to drive the retaining pin out but I got it! Brake cleaned it and lubed it up and put it all together. Now it rattles about like it should be.

As others have mentioned, the SKS is one machine where a dry rattle is a GOOD thing :)
Enjoy your new gun and waste yer money on ammo instead of accessories it wont shoot any straighter or tighter than it already does, just my opinion of course.
Have fun and play safe.
