First season over

I was out with my wife this morning, and got this little buck. I'll hang up the shotgun and go back during m/l season.

When I wrote first season over, I should have specified gun season over (I think - I'll probably be goose hunting the rest of the week). I will be going out during smokepole season.

CWD in Quebec and very close to the Ontario border. They started testing for it last year and all deer came back as non-positive, but this year that WMU seems to have more doe tags being given out than they normally would and they've expanded the testing area into the next WMU over. I'm hoping it's just a case of them being over cautious, but ultimately I wouldn't want for anyone here (or anywhere for that matter) to be taking the gamble.

Should be good. He does have a lot of fat - much more than I would have thought during the rut. Must be very early on. Personally, I prefer does for eating (and cow moose as well), but hey, I'm very grateful that I got one.

He looks fat even in the pic. Congratulations!
My wife takes that fat, renders it, puts bird seed in it, and makes a "suet cake" for the birds. It is way softer than the commercial variety so a good idea to use it up in the winter months. Not hard to do here, as the birds devour it quickly.
