First shot Spray

Well I took my 7 Rem Mag to the range yesterday and fired two five shot groups probably 1/2 hr apart and both time the first round was way away from the rest of the group.( the rest of the group was under 3/4 of an inch)
Any idea's as what would cause this?

Did you clean the gun before each 5 shot group?
How cold was it?

I know some guys after cleaning their hunting rifles will fire one shot through to clean out any excess oil and residue left from cleaning to help with the accuracy of the next shots fired.

Did you space out your shots within the each string? I usually space each shot out by 5mins to try to keep the barrel at the same temp for each shot.

Could be the fouling or the heating of the barrel after the first shot that is altering results.

How about yourself? Maybe you're a little tight on the first shot and then loosen up (or vice versa) during the string.

Here is a trick I use to get good.. I have a rim fire target and you shoot only one shot at each dot this will help you make those cold bore and first shots go where you want there is probably nothing wrong with your gun scope or setup its just you pulling the shot thats all with practise it will go away.

This isnt the identical one I use but it will give you an idea.. each target has a thin circle that is 1" then 1/2" then a tiny dot the idea is to shoot out each tiny dot... there are 20 of them... its pretty hard I don't normally use a bipod just rest the gun on the box of ammo and start controlling my breathing.
