Hi all

I'm looking into buying my first shotgun in the next month or so and have narrowed it down to a couple. I have been looking at the Mossberg 500 series and the Remington 870 series. I am looking for a 12ga and plan on using it for small game hunting and at the range. Would love to know any pro's and con's of the guns.

Thanks

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either one. I went for the Mossberg 3 years ago when I was in this dilemma and I am very happy with it. That being said, the Remington is a very good choice too. Youll be happy with either one!

Mossberg is lighter
Remington has a steel reciever rather than an aluminum one
Mossberg is less expensive
Mossberg has tang safety rather than the Remington trigger guard safety

Hope this helps

I bought my first shotgun last year. I went with the 870 express. It came as a combo with two barrels at lebaron for like $550.

I've been shooting trap, birds and deer hunting with it and probably put close to 1000 rounds through it. I am very happy with it.

remington 870 express combo, 12ga, like Das Kill says. My buddy picked one up at the Toronto Sportsmen Show on Friday from Shooter's Choice. Beautiful gun. The action is...###y to say the least. The pair of barrels gives you alot of flexibilty and options.

Whats your budget?

If you can stretch it to include the 870 Wingmaster, do it. Its an exceptional pump shotgun, with the barrel changing capabilities of 870 Express.

DO NOT get the the 870 Super Magnum. A quick google search will show you the nightmares they have.

i bought a mossberg 835 fly away, hands down better than any 870 i've ever used. wouldn't think twice about going mossberg again.

I agree, express is terrible. I have a 870 wing master and a Mossberg 500 and they are both excellent shotguns. Like doyboy64 said, the 870 catches your thumb and it is a heavy gun. If you plan on carrying it alot, go with the 500.
