I will be picking up my first shotgun soon as the PAL just arrived in the mail. Primary use will be as a last resort for bear defense while hiking and camping. Pretty much set on a 12ga pump with 2 3/4" slugs. This is what I was thinking of getting to start with:

Maverick 88 Security
ATI Talon tactical pistol grip/buttstock
Elite neoprene sling
Trigger lock

Will I need any other accessories in order to attach the sling to the shotgun? For $320 (shotgun and grip/buttstock) should I be looking at any other models? My main criteria are cheap, light and reliable.

I will be picking up ammo from the local sporting goods store. Any brands you would recommend or any that I should avoid?

Thanks in advance for your input.

From what I hear the maverick is a good model, my mossberg 590a1 is tough and reliable, so I have high praise for mossberg shotguns generally ( chainsaw grips notwithstanding) I don't think you will find a cheaper, more reliable shotgun than the maverick, go get one.

As for ammo, I tend to favour Winchester rackmaster 2 3/4" slugs for bushwacking because they are rifled well and seem to be pretty accurate in target shooting. Stay away from sabot slugs, they are useless in a smooth bore barrel.

dominion arms grizzly there great cheap guns and one of the venders who is great to deal with sells them

I think they are sold out everywhere. I would really love to get a mag fed one..

Quite personally, I would ditch the ATI stock,Just get a traditional stock and trim the LOP down. Then buy more ammo and practice more.
