First Sighting Ever

I used to do pigeon clean up duty at a friends farm. There was lots of barn cats at the place but I am guessing the pigeons in the rafters of the barn and in the old style silos were not easy for the cats to get at. I drove in one day to say hello, the owner was sitting at a picnic table taking a break between chores with one of his farm hands. After some small talk he asks, "do you have your gun with you?" I answered "yes." He says "how do you feel about killing cats?" I said "no issue there, do you need one taken care of?" He says "I need all you can see taken care of except for one", which he described in detail. I said "point me in the right direction". So he says "go to the south side of the house and watch in the grass. They are all in there right now." Chisholm was with me. We walked over to the spot and inside of about 5 minutes space I went through 1/2 box of 7.5 trap loads shooting cats while Chisholm stood there chuckling every time I rolled one. My farmer friend was laughing like hell saying "that didn't take long, you seemed to enjoy that?" I just laughed and said "now to the pigeons!" He smiled and chuckled and said "keep at it Frank, you're welcome here any time".
We have been asked to do the same at a dairy farm.

The problem.is these farmer don't fix then and cats population grows quickly.

Where I'm.from it is bad luck to kill a cat.

We have enough predators around without feral cars adding to the mix. I have a personal boundary around my place. If I see a cat outside of it (too far away from home), it's voted off the island. Now, if I could get the mink population under control, we may even get some grouse and cottontails reestablished.

There were lots of fox at my parents growing up. I have seen one cat kill. That fox was out of breath and had to drop the cat every driveway to catch its breath.

I think there will be several sequels to Plinker 's Cat thread....hehe ...just saying.

So, how do you feel about shooting hounds that run your property during the deer season?

No go...... we run hounds at camp and our dogs are great, and mainly stay on our acreage...... other neighbouring camps not so much..... and I always end up collecting dogs and chaining and feeding them...

But we are all out hunting and letting our dogs do what we want them to do.......

With cats, it's a constant problem...... not just central to hunting season.... people that buy a domestic animal yet let it go wild constantly....

I actually like cats more than dogs, kind of weird, but dogs for the most part annoy the hell out of me. I guess I get that from my Dad, he always had a big tomcat around for taking care of critters in the yard, he did make sure they were fixed however. The last one, Rico, was an impressive hunter, sauntered up to my Dad with a dead weasel and dropped it at his feet, proud as punch. He always had to bring his kills to my Dad, like Dad was keeping a running tally or something. :)
