I recently bought an SKS in a Tapco stock from a fellow CGN member. Today I was able to spend a couple of hours with it at the local shooting pit with a few hundred rounds of Barnaul ammo. Wow!!! fun, fun , fun....Everything I always heard about these rifles is true. Its a chinese model and it preformed flawlessly. I sure am glad the ammo is relatively cheap because I know it will want to be fed on a regular basis. When I got home I was so happy I got online and joined the NFA.....great day all around.
;)

Gratz as for regular feeding..silly boy tricks are for prostitutes.... Of course it needs food, now go hurry to your local food store and pick sum up or order from a CGN supporter, they support us we should support them!

Great to hear! You can also shoot regular milsurp for about 1/2 the cost of Barnaul but make sure you do proper corrosive cleanup as soon as you get home from the range. Check out the sticky in red rifles

Welcome to the sks club. Aka the dark side. U can never turn back.

Seriously. Have fun with ur new rifle. Ithink it s the best

Dont dump water thru your gun please.....
I will post pics of mine and its never ever had that done;)

Even if you passionately hate sks's you probably still own one. That's how awefully awesome they are.

Buy a small plastic funnel from Can Tire, take the rifle apart, put a folded rag in the sink to rest the muzzle on and using the funnel pour hot water down the barrel, dry then oil with G96. I used just G96 on the other parts.

Works great to clean out the corrosive stuff.

Ok lol ...you guys do what ya gotta do
What im doing is working for me...
Only put about 5400 rounds thru this baby so far...and none except the hunting rounds were non corrosive:D

Then again mine are also stored in a pretty dry location..so that likely helps

Corrected.. Couldn't pull that off living in a bsmt unit in southern Ontario

SKS was one of my first purchases, along with 1400 rounds. Thought that would last a loooong time. Silly me.

Was thinking about getting a second one for the purpose of messing around with some customization.

I agree, I've never ran water through either of my sks's and Iam 6 crates deep. Bores still looks brand new. I just clean it like I would any other rifle, just more often.

Had my first SKS shoot tonight! Boy, these rifles are freaking awesome. The fun I had with the SKS tonight was worth way more than what I paid for it + the ammo from CanAmm. I seriously can't believe there are those who talk bad about it. I had a blast shooting it... ;)

Cleaning when I got home was easy, it just took some time. I purchased a small, but long, tote from CT when I first picked up my SKS's so I was able to completely submerge all the metal parts, including barrel, in hot soapy water and give them a quick one over with a toothbrush. I then emptied an electric kettle down the barrel while the rest of the parts had a quick bath in some boiling water. Removed from water, dried with rag, used a bit of air to push the water out of smaller areas. The metal was so hot that they dried in no time at all. The usual G96 treatment and off to bed she went. Like I said, cleaning was easy, just took some time. Well worth the effort for what I got out of it at the range.

The amount of work for proper corrosive cleanup is next to nothing. The biggest issue I found was that it has to be done now and I usually come back from the range late at night, dead tired from a long day.
