First SKS gas tube doesn't quite seem right.

Hey guys. So this afternoon I bought my very first gun!!! wooo. Anyways it is a Norinco SKS. What I noticed after purchasing it is that the gas tube release lever thing was all the way up and front. I heard that this is bad apparently as something likely flew out of it, also I cannot remove the gas tube, it appears the back of it has rusted slightly and it is just a little too tight to wiggle it off, I am thinking either more muscle or more sweetly persuading it. Anyone have any thoughts to add? I won't be able to get out to see if it fires for a couple days at least.

Not too sure what to tell you. What do you mean by 'something flew out of it'?

Maybe you should ask this in the Red Rifle section.

Friend of mine has a Norinco SKS-D, and he has to get the gas lever just right to slide the gas tube up and off. You could put some gun oil at the point where the gas op assembly rubs against the gas lever thing, hopefully that'd help. There's lots of extremily knowledgeable people on this forum, you'll get some better info from them. As Sardaukar says, the 'Red Rifle' section is probably your best bet.

Most likely when your removed your gas tube you also removed your spring from under your sight it comes out it that take down lever thing for the gas tube is a 90 degrees if you are not careful it pops out going quite fast . If you try and put the gas tube on without that spring the tube itself can be VERY hard to get off. So if you are missing that spring don't fear just simply replace it you can get them all most anywhere SKS's are sold or online,

Thanks guys. You are likely right, the red rifle forum may have been the logical place but I felt like this may have been a newb question. The thing is I likely bought it like that... unfortunate.

And I only heard that if the the release lever is moved all the way forward like it was, that something would shoot out of it. I didn't see it myself or do it myself. There is no retention to the lever at all though it is just... free to swing about unless I put it all the way into the locked position.
