First Swede-M96

Be sure to keep all the fired brass for your second honeymoon OP.
'Cause when you start into handloading for that Swedish vixen of yours ... you are going to fall in love all over again.

Congrats on your particularly pretty Swede !.

When I first started collecting milsurps, my focus was on Swedish mausers. Even though only about 500,000 were produced, a significant number of them came to Canada when Sweden surplussed them.

They are things of beauty concerning fit, finish and function - and they are great shooters. No downside IMO.

Yours is a nice one.

I recall paying $59.95 for '96's at Le Baron ... way back in the early 80's.
The m38's were somewhat more money, $89 if I recall.

We would harass Bing into pulling out dozens of 'em on the counter for inspection, spend hours cleaning the bores of the short list candidates, right there in the store.

It was not long after that that my bud picked up his mint Beretta Garand for $259. Still kick'n me arse for not grabing one of those when the gett'n was good!. Cost me well over $1200 to build the one just completed .. but thats another story.

Great cartridge for reloading, cheap also. I was looking for bulk cast lead bullets so I bought a lyman 150 grain mold that fits gas checks and got a friend to cast for me. He normally cast me about 400 at each sitting. Unique & Red Dot are great powders for gallery loads out to about 1,400 fps. Not unusual to fire 150 down range during one visit.

I got mine for $49.99 from S.I.R. mail order in Winnipeg in 1979 I believe it was. A made in 1911 model.

Should've got a M38 the next year when they were $69.99 but I couldn't afford it.

Damit you guys… I have this gut feeling already that I might have to get into reloading.. just a hunch. the whole idea for shooting something lighter/softer then 7.5 or 7.62 is appealing, but reloading is all gibberish to me.I guess I will have to ask someone in my area for the live tour.:).. I can hang out at the range with a help me flag on my chest..lol

I bet you guys have AG-42's as well…. don't even get me started on that yet..baby steps.
