First target rifle out of the box suggestions

I just recently purchased a Tikka T3 varmint in .223 (1-8 twist) and I love it! Topped it off with a bushnell 6500 2.5-16x and is perfect for the 300 yard range I shoot at

Perfect thanks all for input. I'm online shopping when I'm supposed to be workingoh well.... Gotta make some decisions

Savage LRPV

I would agree although its above your $1000 you might locate one on in EE, if not another choice would be the Savage model 12 varmint low profile as it is much closer to your $1000 budget.
Scope I run a Vortex viper HSLR in 4x16 it is great. I use it coyote 100-250 yards range. Another choice would the Sightron S3 it seems to get good reviews.

Savage BVSS was one of my faves as an entry point with the 223.

12FV for bare basic and add a new stock if desired.

12FTR is also nice but stock is not to my liking.

Tikka Varmint is great.

For an entry scope, have a look at the new Sightron STACs. Been using the 2.5-17.5 for a bit and it is a great scope but the new 3-15 and 4-20 are smoking good deals (both well under $1k). Glass is wonderful and clicks are precise and feel great. If these work like the rest of the Sightrons, from hunting, predator to LR shooting, hard to beat.

I will be mounting a 4-20 shortly to test on my Rem 783 project rifle.

Thanks very much guys I think I have a good bit if research then I'll be ready to go. I am partial to the look of the t3 varmint and if I did that I probably wouldn't change much with. Just have to go hold a couple options because I have long arms some rifles don't feel right to me if that makes any sense. The reviews on it sound great. I find scope research a bit intimidating to be honest so the suggestions here will definitely be my starting point and I'll make a decision thank you

Can anyone suggest some ammo to start with. I figured I'd use the same method as everything else and just buy a box of half dozen different kinds. I guess also dependent on rate of twist I choose. I'm not reloading yet but will be. I don't know if this is crucial in the beginning because I think my skill level initially will far underscore the performance of any ammo. By that I mean I'll be dialling in from dinner plate groups I'm sure and twitching and shaking so maybe a pointless question at this point. I'll do bipod and I I have bags as well so hopefully I'll get a sort of accurate idea of what ammo works

Don't be too scared of the used market - its very uncommon for someone to not take good care of their rifle. Ask for pics, and a round count. You'll save yourself a few hundred bucks - however, if your OCD (I'm just as bad) bugs you more than the few hundred, then buy new.

The Vortex PST or HS-LR are nice choices. I read good things about the sightron as well.

If you're going to reload, buy ammo with good brass that you can keep and use later on. Nosler or Lapua, I'd suggest.

I have long arms too, and I've had to add a pachmyr recoil pad to add length. My T3's didn't fit right out of the box. If you're going to add a boyd's stock, you can have a custom LOP made for you.

You won't regret a T3. I'll buy you a beer if you honestly feel different in a year....!!!!

Yeah I'm ocd but it has a price lol. I figure I'll keep an eye out for a bit. I see lots of basically new rifles go up on ee so I may find what I'm looking good for.scope I really feel I have to buy new. Thanks for the tips I think it's going to be def t3. Nothing but good things and that last picture sums it up.

I'm OCD as well - I hear you. Optics and guns are generally very well cared for. Someone with a good rating and a good reputation will more than likely do you well.

Tikka did just upgrade the T3, so you may find some clearance prices on the previous models. There is absolutely no reason to not buy a last Gen model.

70% of my guns were bought used.

I own a T3 sporter in .223 and a T3 Varmint both 1-8"twist they shoot very well right out the box triggers are adjustable .
MDT MAKES a nice 20 MOA scope base I put one on both my rifles 80 gr bergers out to 1000yrds is possible and fun .

Bought a heavy barrel 223 Savage axis for $500 brand new. I added a evolution gunworks rail and a 3-9 x 40 (for now). Love that little rifle so far. Accurate, good paper puncher.

I'm new to it as well and bought a weatherby vanguard series 2 for $399 bnib, bought a lightly used vortex pst 6-24x50 sfp, Warne rings. I'm into the whole rig for $1100.I don't reload but am shooting federal red box 55 gr fmj bt sub moa at 200 yds. Really happy with my results and love the feel of the rifle. I plan on adding a savage 12 and an S3 in 10-50×56 as my shooting progress.I love the 223 you can shoot it all day long. Cheap to shoot.
