Hey boys I was wondering if any of you could give me some input on what to look for when buying an AR15, looking to spend like 1500ish no more then 2, something thats eye appealing, can mod, and bang off tight grouping like no tomorrow lol. Questions like, Should i go gas or piston? Good makes and models?..... Any input really would be handy thanks!

Most ar's won't bang off tight groups and when it comes to looks, the whole thing is customizable to your tastes.

I'd look to spend 2k easy if your getting an optic. I'd stick with a free float rail and low profile gas block...that's just me though...I'm building a 12.5 right now that should look and perform awesome

Daniel defense seems great, I'm not huge on piston...but I've never owned one

IMHO piston systems are only warranted for high volumes of fire... I've never had problems with my DI guns, whether my own, or when using C7 in the military.

$1500-2000 will get you a decent basic AR and optic... I compared the CORE15 and Windhams, and went with the Core in the end. I've outshot many DDs, KAs and other high end ARs on the range, but most of it is determined by the operator...

Site sponsors irunguns.ca have CORE15s in Canada for $899.... Would leave you plenty of money for good optics.

Try a few out and see what you like!!

I will say that you need to go hold several and shoot some too, if you can. Find locals that shoot them, and beg/buy lunch/beer etc. Bring your own ammo.

shoot as many as you can.

If you want longer range accuracy don't get a super short barrel, as the velocity drops off the shorter you go. I really enjoy my Windham, its pretty good quality, and compares favourably to more expensive models, both in fit/finish and function. it also comes with a few nice perks like railed gas block, flared magwell etc. And a transferrable lifetime warranty!

I would also suggest maybe spend $1200 or so on the rifle, and then buy a decent optic, some mags and a couple of thousand rounds of ammo. If you buy the more expensive rifle, you might be tapped out, and have JUST the rifle. And you will probably want a stock, foregrip, iron sights, pistol grip, etc, etc. And these things go thru ammo like popcorn, so you will need lots. And to be accurate, you need lots of range time, both to sight it in, and to learn to shoot like that.

A troll would of asked about m16s and definitely wouldn't ask about piston vs di.

So far, the only troll in this thread is you

My suggestion would be to get yourself into a brick and mortar shop and handle your options. Look for something with mil spec components, and good fit and finish.

I would avoid the budget Norincos and NEA offerings, and stick with Core, Windham, or Daniel Defense, this will set you up with a quality rifle, and leave you room in your budget for a nice midrange optic like Vortex or Sightmark, and the obligatory tacticool accessories.

Thanks For the question been wondering that sort of thing myself. Shot an AR years ago, but could not get my head around yanking the trigger. I understand things have improved...

Beauty of the AR is that you can make it whatever you want. My NEA got a new flash hider, trigger, furniture and optics and all said and done, around 1700. Just enough left for 1600rds of norc ammo ;)

piston guns generally cost way more. i've had no issues with my NEA- other than stock trigger but thats a non issue now

Best place to find answers to these sorts of questions is to go to the Black and Green Rifle section and READ and SEARCH there. That's where all of the good (and the not-so-good) AR info is.

Right on guys thank you.... smart to leave some room for ammo and or mods because i would have definitely spent it all on the rifle and had no money for anything lol... ill look into that black and green rifle site... i saw some sick looking core15s today before i got on here, thanks for all the tips

Sorry, love that picture....

Get as good an AR as you can afford with accessories

AR $1200
optic (eotech, aim point) $500
ammo. $400

Then learn it, disassemble it, shoot the heck out of it
