Hi,

I'm completley new to here and to firearms in general. I got my non-restricted licence a few months ago and now I'm ready to put it to use. I'm mostly interested in sports shooting, no hunting.

I just bought a Chinese SKS 7.62x39 from marstar. I like military/military style rifles, and I'm looking for which others to get.

I want to get 2 more to begin my collection. I'm interested in

1 of these:
Ruger SR-22 .22
Kel-Tec SUB 2000 9mm
Just Right Carbine .40 S&W

and 1 of these:
Heckler & Koch SL8-5 .223
Robinson Armament XCR Rifle .223 or .308 Win or 7.62x39

any preferences between them? Are these good choices to start with?
why would someone choose one ammo type over another?

What's the best way to learn more about how to choose between them and then how to care for them?

Thanks

Reading here is best way to learn. Then if something is unclear ask questions. As far as calibers...well best way is to get stuff in common availability..22, 9mm, 40, 223, 308 7,62x39 etc.
In what to get question: only what you like.... basically go handle it, if it feels good then get it. As far as quality well you get what you pay for most time. On occasion you will get a gun you wont like. It happens. Check out EE here for good deals and sponsors for new stuff...
Cant go wrong with an SKS. everyone should own one. also VZ 58. XCR is always excellent choice i think you will be happier than with sl8. Other than that Swiss arms may be of good choice. Sr 22 is good gun. For 9mm carbine i recommend beretta storm with non rest. barrel. Research research research is your friend. Good luck have fun.

Thanks for the reply. Ya, I would love to get a beretta storm, but it's barrel is too short for my licence, and I don't care for the terms of the restricted one.

I like the modern look of the SL8, but if it has some major down sides I would also be happy with the XCR. Any advice on which caliber to choose when buying the XCR? it comes it so many!

Thanks again

You can get N/R ones. Alot of people who pick up the cx4 and also purchase an aftermarket NR barrel. So a NR cx4 will pop on on the ee here and there.
