Went to Silverdale first time today with my first shotgun:D

Went 3/3 with my first ever clays. Finished that round 15/25. Went through 5 boxes and can't wait to come back. Great range, friendly staff and store.

Used my benelli supernova with IC choke.

Try the modified choke next time. I hear it has a better pattern.

I hit up Langley Rod and Gun on Saturday and had a blast (no pun intended). Was shooting trap with my Browning Citori with fixed chokes skeet/skeet. Hit 19/25, 23/25 and 18/25. Not bad for not shooting for about 4 months.

Can't wait to go back.

Congratulations thats good a showing for a first effort. Keep at it!

I've never shot at silverdale but I have hunted all around it a few years back, sure is a pile of turkeys there, and we shot quite a few grouse there one afternoon while bunny hunting.

I went to Hamilton Gun Club saturday while I was down in the area for a visit, havent shot skeet since July '09 or my 101 Winchester since 2008. Went back to back 24's with a cyl bore in the bottom barrel and skeet in the top. Bought the chokes at Lawreys on friday as well as a few flats of 2 3/4 dram 8's. Never had a chance to pattern the chokes but seems to be working!:D

nice going, where is Lawreys?

Lawreys is located in Caledonia. They are clay target manufacturers and the Ontario distributor for Federal Ammunition. They also are agents for Briley Mfg and Kolar Guns as well and carry a few different manufacturers of clay target machines. In fact I just priced out a Bowman electric thrower to use on my back 40.

thanks!

Congratulations on your first outing and shooting so well. Another, er, victim of clay target sports. Paper punching will never hold the same appeal ever again ;)

Here's a link to Lawry's, suitably chilled because they aren't a supporting dealer.

Isn't Silverdale just 1 machine that throws birds for you to practice on? Atleast that is the impression I got from the member I talked to. If you go to the end of the road Regonal has sporting clays every first and third Sunday of the month.

I was told that shooting with no chokes is best for skeet? try that?
If what you mean by "no chokes" is removing your choke tubes and "shooting the threads" that's a bad idea. If you mean "no choke" as in a cylinder choke which has zero constriction then it's not a bad suggestion although most skeet chokes tend to have a tiny bit of constriction.

I always thought SKEET tubes were actually open wider than CYLINDER?

Generally cylinder is .000" constriction. Skeet 1 is .005" while the less common Skeet 2 otherwise known as Light Modified is .015".

Beretta shows a bore of .732" for Optima barrels (mine).
They list 2 different SKEET tubes, SKEET-USA and SKEET-EURopean.
SKEET-USA= .727" (.732-.727) = .005" restriction to bore
SKEET-EUR= .759" (.732-.759) = .032" wider than bore

I guess we're both correct Claybuster! I learned something today. :)

The SKEET-EUR is more commonly known as a diffusion or spreader choke. I have one, have patterned it and haven't found a huge benefit to using one.

Here are links to articles on them and other helpful choke info
