I just recently got my license & I am looking to buy my first firearm. I used to enjoy shooting alot when I was younger with my father's old .22's. So I am looking for something in this caliber. I have come across 2 possible choices. The Ruger SR 22 & the S&W M&P 15-22. Which one is the better buy? I know the SR 22 is available in Canada. but I haven't seen the 15/22 (Is it even possible to get one here?? Where?). Their generally about the same price & .22 rounds are inexpensive for the most part. Would really appreciate some help with this. I am looking forward to hearing back from you guys! (This is the first time I have posted on this site so I chose what I thought would be the best possible section. Sorry if I was mistaken)

P.S. What do you think about the other weapon in my price range the CZ 858 Tactical II? Thanks :)

Go SKS for a medium powered rifle with the cheapest rounds available next to 22 cal. The most bang for your buck and lots of fun. Good quality rifles everywhere. Get them while they're hot. A few hundred bucks and you're good to go.

If you are interested in the tactical rimefire then go SR22 or remington 597 VTR. The smithy is restricted so it is not a good option unless you never want to take it anywhere other than a range. An SKS is a good centerfire gun for plinking and short range bush/varmit gun. If you want short to medium and some long range with tweaks then the chinese norinco M14 cannot be beat. If you want to break into it cheaply stay rimfire for a while it is easier on the wallet and you can shoot the heck out of it and if you want to sell it you will have a very low depreciation on the gun.

Ruger SR-22 is a pimped out 10/22 :D . They're a lot of fun, decently accurate, and you can tinker with them as they take 10/22 internals and AR externals. Plus, they're non-restricted. I can't remember the last time I hosed through that much ammo in that short of time! :ar15: :dancingbanana:

(E)

Hands down, the SR-22. I have a couple other NICE rifles that are starting to collect dust, because all I want to shoot these days with my SR-22. It is quite accurate, super cheap to shoot and overall it is just super fun. They are also pretty cheap to buy.

guns are like women , each person has their one personal tastes. they are more like women in the sense that the first couple you choose will not work out for you and you have to move on to other ones. shoot what you can afford

Hi I think the SR 22 is the better choice since it is non restricted but if you are interested into the M&P 15-22 they have tehm at www.frontierfirearms.ca to back to your question they are 580$. Cool rifle but the bad part is that they are restricted.

Another good choice is buy a 10/22 carbine and a custom stock for it. Fabsports offers a nice variety of all sorts of neat stocks, including whatever you need to convert your 10/22 from a mundane looking rifle into a quasi AR 15. I'm not into the tactical craze, but I have a Tapco intrafuse stock on my 10/22 and am using a pistol scope as a "scout" mount on the top rail.

In fact, the Mini 14 is another good choice. The newer ones are more accurate, they are dead dependable and very versatile, and there are a lot of accessories around to make it look like a quasi AR as well...
