Hi All !

I have an A2 5 port flash hider to install and wanted confirmation on my steps.

-barrel into vice between wood
-crush washer on finger tighten hider
-using between 30 and 35 pounds of torque, tighten the hider until it lines up ( indexes ?) so that my ports are at facing up and sideways crushing the washer a bit in the process.

At finger tight up against the crush washer it looks like it needs another quarter turn. Does it matter which direction the crush washer is facing ? One end is tapered.

Am I good to go ?

Thanks for your comments,
Sabre

Hey,
I just installed a Stag brake on my new Stag... I can tell you what Walt told me about the installation :

- Put the crush washer on; one of the face is tapered inwards and the other tapered outwards. The outward tapered face is meant to go toward the reciever.

- Put the brake on, hand snugged.

- Now to properly index it you should need between 0.20-0.75 turn. Between those two values, the torque needed will be within tolerances. Under 0.20 turn, it would be too loose, over 0.75 turn the crush washer looses it's effectiveness.

Of course it's not a flash hider, but hope it helps a little...

i think you have it backwards. the larger diameter goes towards the larger surface, which in the case of a standard AR barrel is the flash hider.

in this picture the view is from the flash hider end.

I think the A2 flash hider indexes so the bottom of the hider(which is an area with one less port) is pointing towards the ground. This is to stop extra dirt from flying up when firing prone

thanks Zykopat and Powerwagon!

Your answers give are all the input I need to go ahead. The .20 to .75 turn fits with what I have left to tighten. The inner taper against the barrel ( toward the receiver ) matches the barrel diameter with the outer taper against the flash hider it looked right and I am glad to have confirmation.

Emma that extra dirt is exactly the reason for no ports on the bottom, less/no dust cloud obscuring follow up shots and just as important, no dust cloud giving away your position.

I must have a hard time expressing myself because that's exactly what I meant. By tapered inward I meant tapered inside the washer and vice versa. Hey I speak french 99% of the time, so I have an excuse!

See on the pic, the side that is tapered outside the crush washer is toward the reciever.

Thanks for the picture Zykopat, and no worries about the mix up, I speak English 99% of the time and can confuse my words ... ( I blame dslyxia ) and I wish my French was a tenth as good as your English.

I just installed my A2 Flash Hider last night it is on tight now! The last 1/10 of a turn was pretty intense no idea how much torque I needed to line up the hider ports but it was a 2 hand full body effort. I am glad I had the barrel clamped down hard... Anyone want a piece of plywood with my barrel stamp imprinted on it ? Thanks again guys, she looks complete and great now!
