It was a hell of an afternoon...

Shot my SKS, in fact my first center fire rifle today. Nothing like a 22, I was shooting at filled water bottles at 25 yards and found that a lot of my shots seemed to be going to the right. Not sure if it needs adjustment or it was me getting used to the gun and the recoil.

I have shot 10 yard air for years and this was nothing like it :) :)

I am going to put up some paper targets to see exactly where things are. Not the best choice of target today but I really wanted to get out and shoot the SKS.

If the gun needs a windage adjustment is there a way to do it without the front site adjustment tool?

Man, you can put a lot of rounds through the gun in a little time good thing the milsurp ammo is cheap.

You can use a modified C-clamp to adjust the front sight, or try to use a brass punch BUT buying or borrowing a front sight tool is the easiest way to do it. Most of them do need adjustment though, if you can group consistently it's not "you" that's off, it's the rifle's sights that are off in relation to how you shoot. Good to hear you are having fun, just make sure to clean it with hot water or windex to get the corrosive residue out, and the SKS will be a fun shooter for a long time.

Thanks cgunuser,

I will try to find an adjustment tool or talk to the guys at the machine shop near me.

Oh it got a good cleaning when I got home... 1 hour shooting and 2 hours cleaning but I enjoyed every minute LOL.

We just got our sks a week ago, its fun. Trust me cleaning it isn't that bad, heck I even found out that the bore guide that comes with it works with normal cleaning rods too! But I can get mine stripped down and cleaned in about 40 minutes, thats not including gas tube but its easy.

Yes, I agree I could have gone a lot faster but I took it really slow and cleaned every part except the trigger group. I had a bunch of free time so I spent it on the rifle.

In the future I can and will do a faster clean... I just didn't want to go out and cut the grass it's not any fun LOL

Shot my new SKS for the first time today too. What a fun toy, and I agree about the milsurp being cheap. Stripper clips made reloading a breeze.

I bought 200 rounds, burned through half, going to buy a case or two next time. Great centerfire plinker.

A kid(early teens) at the range couldn't believe when he saw the bayo, he thought they were prohib.

Congrats on your SKS! It's the most underestimated gun, at least in Canada.
I shoot mine to 300 meters as is, no mods. Most of them are 3-4 inch at 100m with surplus but can be 1.5-2 inch with reloads (at least that was true for my Yugo and Russian - 1.5 MOA @100m)

One more thing... If you EVER feel a need for a scoped gun - buy Savage or Stevens. It'll be cheaper with better results.
