this was my second time to the range with this gun, its a remington 700 in 30-06. first time out i had some scope issues and couldnt get it setup, a nice guy named monty set me up in a hurry at the end of my day and the thing was dead on accurate at 50. so yesterday being my stag party the boys and i hit the range for a few hours mid day. this is the first target i reached out to at 100 yards, first time going that far with this gun and again, first target i was shooting at. my groupings tightened up to about 1.5 inches as the day went on at 100 and at the 60 yard line i was putting them even tighter

the forehead shot was intentional. i was aiming at the targets forehead and got him, the 2 in the face were also intentional and landed where i wanted them to, the chin and ear were just wild shots. im pretty sure i either flinched or tried a new position to hold the gun or something. regardless the two in the face are the ones im happy with. and im gonna start reaching out a little further next time im at the range. i tried my luck at the 200 yard target but couldnt hit ####. the gun was hitting really high. at 100 yards its dead on accurate. at 200 i was missing the paper and my spotter said it was going high even with me aiming below it. im guessing its a little to do with the bullet still arching but more to do with me than anything else. so ill get a little more seat time in at 100 first and slowly get out a little further

thanks guys, quite excited as its my first precision type rifle, and coming from an sks im quite excited i was able to hit the paper first time out.

im sure this is going to become an expensive hobby very quickly as all i wanna do is go out and shoot this thing now :) my buddy managed to hit our bin laden target in the nose at 100 yards aswell. nice and center

thanks, slowly working on it. like i said this was my first time to 100 with the new rifle, ive shot that range with my sks several times, no where near as accurate but ive hit the paper.

thats what they want us to think. without a body who knows if hes really dead :)

groups were much tighter the second time out. im going out again on sunday ill get some more pics

Welcome Uchi,
I consider myself a beginner in the sport and found great advice here on the board.

Why don't you post a photo of your setup?

I'm really confused about your shots going high at 200 yards with a 100 yards zero.

I know you shoot a .30-06 but for a .308 the 100 yards zero gives you zero elevation at 50 yards and 100 yards. This means that beyond 100 yards your bullet will be right away below aiming point. The "loop" is done so to speak.

Good luck

ill get some pics up tonight, theyre on my phone and im just eating breakfast getting ready to go to work.

i thoght it might have been a fluke but just like you, 50 and 100y zero shes dead on, and both times ive been out she was hitting high. spotter said they say the bullet hit the dirt above the target. again this could very well just be me and nothing to do with the gun. im shooting a 180gr bullet, thought maybe the added weight carried the arch a bit further but then the 50-100y wouldnt be as accurate as it was. im meeting someone at the range this weekend hopefully ill get it sorted out :)
