First Time

Just got back from shooting my Lyman Trade Rifle for the first time out at Homestead and it was a blast. It was pretty easy and not bad for accuracy. What's funny is the second shot I loaded the round ball without a charge! I couldn't believe it, I remember reading about that and I go and do it my second shot! Wasn't too hard to fix though, just removed the nipple and worked some powder into the chamber reconnected and fired, only took 2 tries. Sure was a pain lubing the patches each time - I'll have to buy some prelubed patches.

can buy little tools now which i think il get. that run off 9oz CO2 tanks that you screw into the nipple and you pull a lever and it blasts the ball and stuff out

for patches try blue jean 100% cotton cut into strips about 2 inch's wide PS buy a meter of new material place ball on strip start it in just bellow muzzel cut off with razor sharp knife . for lube at the range mix up moose milk in a spray bottle (dish soap water and a little windex) as long as you don"T wait too long works great if you wait too long some of the lube will get into the powder. for hunting mix some lard and wax one the stove cool then use this to lube the strips about 70% lard 30% wax trial and error till you get the consistency you want.

I use "Moose Juice" for lube and it consists of,
4- TBLS Alcohol
1 1/2- TBLS Castor oil
1 1/2- Tbls Murphys oil soap
2 TBLS- Witch Hazel
1/2 Cup- Water

I just pre-lube a 2" wide strip of pillow ticking from Wal-Mart, and load up 5 speed loaders for hunting, or just cut at the muzzle for target shooting. This lube works good, and clean up at the end of the day is quick.

I also use "Moose Snot" for hunting. It is!
2 oz of Beeswax
8 oz of Castor oil
1 oz of Murphys
Melt the beeswax and mix the others in. It makes a good greas lube for hunting.
