I find range scrap to be extremely soft alloy. Could be part of your leading issue. I have been playing with cast in an m14 since October. Cast is a tough cookie to crack. Are you using a 2 cavity or a 6?
I have a 6 Cavity lee mold for .38 that i use in both .38 and 9mm. sizing to 0.001 over your groove diameter is important. I size to .356 for 9mm. also, you could try water quenching to help harden up the boolits. Although I have yet to get my hands on any, Wheel weights are the number one most recommended source for cheap good bullet alloy.
bonus heres what ive been working on. really hard to get good accuracy from cast .308s in a semi auto at 200 yards lol.
