Problem: old rifle with unusual rings but in 26mm.
Either I can fit with inserts or I have to take blank mounts to be fitted by a gunsmith.
Ringsand mounts are buehler

I've never seen inserts to adapt 26mm to 1-inch scopes, although 30mm-to-1-inch are common. Many years ago I needed to do the same thing you are attempting, and a local gunsmith made up some metal adaptors that worked perfectly and remained with the gun/scope combo until I sold it. They were very unobtrusive (you really had to look to see them) and very inexpensive, and the job was done within a couple of weeks.

if you know a machinist , all he has to do is bore a piece of aluminum out to 26mm and turn the od 30mm, part two rings off and split them with a hacksaw,,not a big process.

So if I understand correctly you have 26mm rings and wish to fit a 1" (25.4mm) scope

Your rings are 0.6mm too big which makes it tricky as thats only 0.3mm all around (I don't see you getting inserts that small - can't you swop the rings for the correct size?

If not the only other option I can see is to have the rings machined out to 30mm and use 30mm-25mm reducers

The "inserts" are simply going to be strips of 0.3mm shim material wrapped around the scope tube. Is that difficult to locate? If I were home I'd be tempted to measure the thickness of aluminum foil and get out a pair of scissors...or maybe try a beer can.

Monster hunter: not the opposite? 26 mm od and 1 inch inside?

sorry i miss read it . but its an easyer fix for you with the shims at least lol. 26mm is 1.0236 so say .024 thousands over an inch = .012 thou shim stock . machine shops usally have brass or stainless shim stock. ill check at work monday if we have any 12 thou.
