Hey Folks,

I bought a Ramline synthetic stock for my Garand build to hold myself over until I could get a nice wood stock set. It seems to fit well for the most part, aside from the front hand guard. The recess into the wood for the front hand guard ferrule (as seen below) hasn't been cut into the ramline so its entirely flat at the muzzle end.

I'd greatly appreciate input from anyone that has, or has had, a ramline for their Garand! I'm not sure if this is a defect or if the ramline stock set deletes the front handguard ferrule entirely?

the spacer slides down the center of the handguard.... and you have to bend the tabs at the end to hold it on

no idea on the ramline

I emailed Ramline for instructions but I'm guessing that the ferrule and spacer aren't necessary anymore given the strength of the polymer. The lower band still needs some fitting so I haven't tested my theory but once I find time I'll post the results here.

Ramline is apparently no longer in business but the good folks at Hoosier Gun Works (a past distributor) were kind enough to send me the install instructions that never came with my second-hand stock. The install instructions make no mention of transferring any hardware to the new front handguard so I think it's safe to assume that its not supposed to be on there. Here's an exerpt:

ASSEMBLY – CHAMPION STOCK
STEP 8: ATTACH REAR HANDGUARD. Place read handguard on barrel, making sure front flange fits into
lower band. Press metal read handguard band into place, making sure both sides snap into grooves of
barrel.
STEP 9: ATTACH FRONT HANDGUARD. Slide front handguard over barrel with hole in handguard front.
Make sure rear end flange nests under lower band.
STEP 10: REPLACE GAS CYLINDER, GAS CYLINDER LOCK, AND GAS CYLINDER LOCK SCREW. Slide gas
cylinder over barrel and screw in cylinder lock and lock screw. Tighten securely with screwdriver.
STEP 11: ATTACH MAIN STOCK. Place stock ferrule swivel over front end of stock. Slide front end of stock
into lower band, and swing stock up and over receiver mechanism until it snaps in place.
STEP 12: ATTACH TRIGGER HOUSING ASSEMBLY. Hold trigger guard open while sliding housing directly
into stock until it is flush. Push trigger guard down and snap into place.
STEP 13: ATTACH RECOIL PAD AND FOAM INSERT. First, push foam into stock butt. Use Phillips screwdriver
to attach recoil pad with screws that are already positioned in the recoil pad.

If anyone would like a copy of the actual instructions, just send me a PM with your email address.

Hey Folks,

Quick update as I've now assembled the M1 with the ramline stock and someone might read this thread one day with the same question.

The front hand guard ferrule is not used when installing the ramline stock. On my rifle there is a small gap between the base of the gas cylinder and the front handguard that means the front handguard will rattle a bit unless its filled. I plan to belt sand the hand guard ferrule down to approximately 0.5 cm in thickness to fill the gap but a person could just as easily use wood or any other material to get the job done. No guarantees that the spacing will be the same in all other Garands but that has been my experience.
