Five Round Stripper Clips?

Anyone know a source for 5 round clips?

These would seem to be a great idea for the CDN market.

Try to modify the 10-rounders that 7.62 X 39 come in for 5 rounds. The only problem I see is that they may be one-way while the 10-rd ones will feed both ways.

You just take a ten, dunk it down, take it back up, leaves 5 in. Then, turn it upside down when you've fired five and do it again!

If you want ONLY 5 rounds so that you can just throw it away once you're loaded just saw a 10 rd. stripper clip in half and use a pair of pliers to turn up a little bit of the metal on the cut end so the rounds won't slide out that end. I haven't tried this but I can't see why it wouldn't work. You'd just have to pay attention to which way you put the stripper clip into the guide.

I really don't find it a big deal. After shooting my sks with clips for a while, you get used to putting only 5 in and removing the clip with the 5 left. Now I can put 5 in from a 10 very quickly, as fast as 10.
Practice makes perfect

I cut one in half and played around with it. It was easy enough to dent the cut end so now rounds could slide off. I found that the half clip was handy but it's a little bit awkward sticking one's thumb all the way through the action so they all set into the mag...

I use the SKS for World War II re-enacting matches where fast reloads mean the difference of winning or loosing stages. What I have done is take a 10 rd clip and put in 5 empty casings then mark it. I cut on the mark, then crimp the edges and polish off the rough edges on my bench grinder. The crimped end I paint orange, that way during a match I grab a clip and automatically know that the coloured end goes up. It is absolutely amazing how fast you can get 40-50 rds downrange quicky.

I have made lots of them. Take a sharp chisel and cut them on an anvil or other solid surface. That pinches one end closed. Grind the corners and sharp end made by the chisel. spray paint the cut end a bright colour. Takes no time to do a bunch. They are fast and handy.

As much as I hate being restricted to 5 rounds in the SKS, it would be cool if somebody would make a nice stamped 5 round copy of the 10 round stripper clip (modeled after the sturdy Soviet bloc version instead of that awful Chinese version.)

Clipped clips...

It works very well indeed; I made some a while ago.
With a small cutting wheel or a good small-toothed hacksaw it is an easy task.
Take a cut across the edges, then just score the back between the cuts and bend it a few times, it will break clean.
A few passes with a fine pattern file will finish the rough edges. You may want to pinch in the sides so the rounds won't pop out. Being stopped by the edges allows the bottom round to protrude just enough so the last round in the clip will clear the stop nub at the end of the retaining spring finger.
BTW, it is very easy to find which side the clip has to be fed even without looking.
