Does anyone know the value and year of production of the fixed barrel Dan Wesson model 715 in stainless (357 magnum)

Also, is this a limited production and of collector value?

Serial is S0039xx

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

AFAIK.

The Dan Wesson 715 revolver has a removable barrel and shroud.
At least my 715 does. It also accepts the barrels and shrouds from my Dan Wesson model 15. Which is the same gun in blue.

I have to say that I have never heard of a non-removable barrel DW 715.

Pictures of the muzzle?

It was explained to me by the seller that it is a non removable barrel that Dan Wesson produced.

Yes, Dan Wesson produced fixed barrel revolvers but it was later on and probably not a Monson made DW. It was considered to be less costly to produce than the removeable barrel/shroud models and at the time DW company was looking for ways to boost the sales market.

Please explain shroud:confused:

When DW owners refer to the shroud, it means the barrel & shroud are interchangeable for differing lengths. The barrel is screwed into the reciever frame in the rear and up front secured with a barrel nut that fits flush into the muzzle end of the shroud.
One can change barrel lengths at will, (of course staying within prohib' or restricted category for the Canadian owner) with a special wrench for the barrel nut and this method also is believed to further enhance accuracy.

Barrel, shroud and barrel nut.

Thank you for the ongoing education.

The revolver appears in nice shape.

The DW barrel change system is the big draw for me, added to the superb accuracy produced by this system.

One of my revolvers is part of a "Dan Wesson Pistol-Pac". this consists of the revolver frame as well as barrels in 8"-6"-4"-2" lengths, different grips, and tools for barrel changing. plus some front-sight inserts, belt buckle and such.

Because the set contains some prohibited length barrels, the gun remains prohibited even when wearing the 8" barrel.

If I should make a mistake, and attach a prohibited barrel from that set to another DW model 15 frame in my collection that is only rectricted.
Even for a second.
Something which could possibly happen, if I cleaned both at the same time.
Then I would be creating a prohibited device.

That might cause me to lose my guns and the further ability to own same. And some jail time for a bonus.

having said that...
I'm sure that I could find a place for it in my collection Eh!

thank you so much for the input and the info. Should I decide to sell, I will certainly post here. I currently have the DW 44 kit but only have the 8 inch and 4 inch. This revolver is a lot lighter of course than the ones with the removeable barrels and shrouds.

What does this revolver weigh?
What is the length from the front of the revolver's frame, to the muzzle?

I would like to compare to the weight of my revolvers, with the same length barrel installed.

Thanks for posting good pictures depicting this interesting piece.:)

The barrel is exactly 5 inches from the end of the muzzle to the end of the barrel touching the cylinder. Weighs in at 2 3/4 lbs

Thank you for taking the time.

My revolvers both have identical weights in identical configurations.
Both wear Pachmayr Gripper grips.

In my case all of the shrouds are of the Vented-rib, Heavy-barrel type.

The barrels of my revolvers closest to your 5" barrel, are 4" and 6" respectively, from end to end as measured on your gun.

For both the blued Model 15, and the stainless steel 715 revolvers, the weights are:

Bare frame with grips=29 oz.
With 4" barrel installed=40 oz.
With 6" barrel installed=45 oz.

I did not weigh the 2" or 8" barrel combos. The weights should pretty much be around 30 oz. and 50 oz. respectively.

Your revolver's weight falls a little on the heavy side of half-way. Your gun has a solid rib, and the removable shrouds probabbly have less internal metal.

Thanks for sharing your information, and the opportunity to learn more about Dan Wesson revolvers.:)
