Fixed choke shotgun to accept screw in chokes?

You need enough meat (metal) in the muzzle area of the barrel to allow for the installation. Whoever is going to do the barrel for you can tell you how thick the barrel walls need to be. It cost me over $1,000 to fix a bad Colonial choke tube, once, but that is another story. Kolar ... http://www.kolararms.com/ and Briley ... http://www.briley.com/ are companies that I would recommend (prices are listed on the web sites). I believe that Precision Arms in King City, Ontario do it as well. Many local gunsmiths do them as well, but you need to check them out first.

thank you. i have a mid '60 remington 1100 that i would like to use for skeet and trap. origionally was going to justopen it to improved cylinder, and use another double for trap... but installing the choke tubes sounds like a better idea...

Aside from the thickness of the sidewall of the barrel, you also need enough diameter to threaded the barrel inorder to accept the choke, assume the barrel is narrower at the mazzle, the smith will have to shorten the barrel to get enough diameter and by that time, the barrel may not be long enough to become a good trap/skeet gun.

I would suggest that you also consider buying some other barrels. I see them regularly for about $165 or less for an 1100. If you look long and hard, you might even find one already with tubes installed.
