fixed full choke for sporting clays?

Setting up pattern targets at those 3 distances would give a an idea what pattern looks at each distance. The old method was to set a target at 40yrds and count each pellet within a 30" circle to analyze the results. In reality, set up a pattern target at the distance you expect to shoot the majority of your targets and see what the pattern looks like. 40yrds doesn't mean alot if your targets are at skeet ranges, and vice versa. Essentially, what your trying to do with a pattern target is verify the POI, the size of the pattern and how even it is.

hello Maritimer. thanks for your reply. so in my case especially, what I will be using this shotgun for primarily is sporting clays and maybe trying to knock down a pheasant or two while out for whitetails. was planning to try and get out this weekend to pattern but the temp. is supposed to plummet to around a high of -15 so I think I will hold off until next weekend.

upon cracking open the action and looking down both tubes, it looks to my inexperienced eye that these barrels have a standard cylinder bore just like my last shotgun, although I know this is not the case. what would happen, just out of curiosity, if I fired slugs out of this gun. would the slug compress to fit the barrel and fly true or would I end up with either a possible bulge in the barrel or a split/catastrophic failure? thanks so far.
Andrew

Subjective question, checking with the ammunition manufacturer may be best to answer this one. Some say it won't hurt anything to fire foster style slugs through a Full choke, others say it will.

Head up to Carstairs to silver willow sporting clays they have a valentines shoot coming up Feb.8/14 even if you don't shoot just hang around there is always lots of advice and friendly people there.
Don Day will happily answer all your questions after the shoot is over and the bs-ing starts.

I've shot at Silverwillow on three different occasions. gets better each time I go. I'll try and go one of these days. Don laughs whenever I used to bring my pump action Mossberg. hopefully he will be happy to see I finally got with the program.
