Anyone know the value of a Plessey Bren Fixed line sight with box in excellent condtion?

I know of one that sold on gunbroker for $5000 and several in the UK for close to the same. Times are tough now and I might have to sell it. Anyone know what the canadian market would offer if I decide to list it here.

What is its canadian value anyone have a clue?

Thanks

I paid $600 for mine from CS a few years back. I don't think you will find anyone up here nutz enough to pay those gunbroker prices. Quite frankly, I don't think they are that rare. I know three other people locally that also own them.

I think your best bet would be to try the gunbroker or ebay route. Last one I saw sell on ebay went for around $1500.

Even At 6 to 800 it will be a hard sell in Canada. Go Eslime and takes yur chances. They were selling in the UK some years ago for 125 to 150 quid (pounds) but demand, for a while, outstripped supply. As you need cash fast go to Eslime

Note that if you must have a mk1 with the extra dovetail to use the sight. Also, if you want to put a drum mag on the Bren, you can't have the Plessy sight in it at the same time. I fixed that problem by getting several Brens in order to mount the extras.

Mark: any chance you can supply the serial numbers for your friend's sights? One of the other forums is keeping a registry of the known numbers. They seem to cap at around 16,000, which to me indicates a production of that many. I think one of the early Bren books claimed that only a very very small number existed, but I think that thanks to the internet that claim may be now debunked. That's not to say that they are common, mind you.

Did any Canadian units get these issued?

I noticed the Canadian web bino case it is in, but were any of these C/|\ marked either?

some people I have talked to believe might be an early c broad arrow, anyone? even Laidler himself was not 100% as to the exact meaning of the stamping?

I'd love to know, I,m going to ask if all the FLS units have this

That, as you've pointed out, is a strange one... The normal C/|\ was used from very early one, so that by 1939, there was already 35+ years of it's use. I wonder if the contractor/manufacturer, simply got it wrong when asked to stamp it with the C ???? But then the C was supposed to be installed by a Canadian "inspector" for acceptance...

It is like Barbie, change the outfit every couple of months to something new.

well its gone, but I got my asking price of $3000 but I got paid by (FRAUD ALERT) and got hosed out of almost 200 bucks.

Oh well still better than 1500 bucks, only just have the memories of it now
