fixed power on 22lr for bench use

does any one run a fixed power scope on a 22lr. trying to deceide between another say 6x20 or just run a fixed scope over 20x. any opinions. usage for range only.
 
I use Leupold Competition 45X, Weaver T36 and Sightron 36X42 on my benchrest 22's. These are all fixed power scopes. Range distances used at are 50 - 200 yds.
 
*wince at seeing the uber sophistication of the fine gentlemen's scopes*
I use a 45$ Simmons fixed 4x power at 50y and to plink closer. On a Henry Frontier. It works quite well, that's all I can really say. . :d

well...ask your self..."do I ever dial it down"....

fixed might be little lighter for offhand/slhouette; variable will re-sell better... imo
 
Have a Bausch & Lomb 36x target scope on my target .22LR.

Is great for dedicated paper punching at 50 and 100 meters.

But not very suitable for other uses, such as bird, gopher or squirrel shooting.

Once I get the stock I am building completed I believe I will put a 6-18x (cheap Cabela's scope that came with another gun). Thats a bit more useful for shooting gophers.
 
i'm thinking fixed as its dedicated for range use. as for dialing down my varitables not often my sightron 6x20 lives at twenty power. even some of my hunting rifles have gone to 6x scopes. I have seen some good deals on fix high power scopes, guess there not as popular.
 
I have fixed power Weaver scopes on a couple 22's they are 3 & 4 power scopes that work great for me up to 50 yards, after that the eyes can't keep up. Both of these are my hunting 22's and with these scopes on them are more than good enough for anything you will come across while hunting.
 
IF your range never has any significant mirage... sure, otherwise, much better with variable magnification. I use a Sightron 10-50x60 on my .22lr.
With a 36X on a 100yard gravel range with hot sun, you won't even see the target... just a dancing blur. They got their place and use though, but its not nearly as versatile as a good variable power.
 
I use a Bushnell 3200 tactical fixed 10X on my CZ Silhouette 22 RF. Zeroed at 50m is good to near 300m in erector travel although generally shoot to 200m. Great tool for wind reading practice.

I have had no issues at the near ranges and they are < $300.

We are in the same boat. I just use a cheap 4x32 ScopeChief Bushnell.
 
The V24s are very clear & bright @ full power which is where I have them set 99% of the time. The T36 are very good but not as bright as some of my lower powered scopes but considering the price of these they are an extremely good buy.

I am also very fond of the Bushnell 4200 Elite series I have a 6x24 with 1/4moa dot & two 8x32s, all of these are bright & clear through the full range of magnification. I think it's a shame that Bushnell has discontinued the 4200 series, they represented an excellent value for the $$$

My favourite scope is my Sightron S3 10x50 x 60mm. It is crystal clear even at the higher magnification but at it's price it should be. :)

I looked very hard at Sightron but felt there were better values out there

Mine came with a Savage 112 BR rifle I bought from a friend, When all was said & done I had about $1600.00 into the package. Both rifle & scope were in near mint condition.

I would have a tough time paying full retail price for that scope as I am very frugal by nature. ;)
